This isn't your everyday health role. As CQHHS's new permanent part-time Senior Epidemiologist, you'll have the opportunity to shape how the service understands and responds to communicable disease, from blood-borne and vaccine-preventable diseases to outbreaks, zoonotic and vector-borne threats.

We're looking for an independent thinker who can apply epidemiology to complex situations, adapt their approach and connect the dots others might miss. If you want to use your expertise where it can genuinely influence decisions, research and better health outcomes, this new role is well worth a closer look.

This position can be based anywhere within Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service.

About us:

The Quality and Safety Division helps CQHHS deliver safer, more effective and person-centred care by providing clinical teams with the frameworks, expertise and practical support to identify risks, understand performance and continuously improve.

The Risk and Informatics Team is the data and risk powerhouse behind this work. They turn complex healthcare data into clear, useful insights, tracking trends, emerging risks and quality indicators so leaders and frontline staff can make informed decisions. They also oversee risk and audit systems, develop dashboards and reporting tools, support governance committees, and provide training so staff can confidently use data to improve care.

About the role:

  • Lead communicable disease surveillance and research across areas including blood-borne viruses, gastrointestinal, vaccine-preventable, sexually transmissible, vector-borne and zoonotic diseases.
  • Provide expert epidemiological advice to CQHHS, Queensland Health and partner organisations, supporting effective interventions, research and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Turn complex health data into practical insights, interpreting epidemiological data, research and literature so clinicians, policymakers and the public can understand and use it.
  • Support patient safety, quality and risk improvement by analysing information such as consumer feedback, clinical incidents, audits and patient outcomes to identify trends and opportunities for better care.

About you:

  • Qualified in epidemiology or public health: A tertiary qualification with an epidemiology focus, or postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics or public health.
  • Professionally registered or eligible for membership: Current AHPRA registration and annual practising certificate where applicable, or eligibility for relevant Australian professional membership.
  • Credentialed to practise: Successful applicants must complete CQHHS credentialing and have an approved Scope of Clinical Practice, with ongoing review as required.
  • Ability to apply epidemiological principles to complex clinical and public health situations, adapting established approaches when needed.

  • Ongoing Professional Development and Education Opportunities
  • Flexible Work-Life Balance and Variety
  • Generous Salary Sacrificing Options
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
