THE OPPORTUNITY
PYBAR is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Heavy Diesel Fitter to join our established maintenance team at the Eloise and Jericho copper operations in North Queensland.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you'll guide and support a skilled maintenance crew, take ownership of daily maintenance priorities and play a key role in keeping our underground fleet operating safely and efficiently
Here's what we offer:
- Rates: $80-$85/hr + monthly bonus, with 13 paid hours per working day.
- Roster: 15 days on / 13 days off and 14 nights on / 14 days off.
- Employment: Permanent full-time position directly with PYBAR.
- FIFO: Charter flights from Brisbane and Townsville, with connections from major airports.
- Camp: Quality accommodation with private ensuites, excellent meals, gym, Wi-Fi and wet mess.
- Career Growth: Ongoing training, leadership development and opportunities to progress into senior maintenance and supervisory roles across PYBAR's national operations.
As a Leading Hand, you'll be responsible for:
- Leading and mentoring maintenance personnel, promoting teamwork, accountability and a positive crew culture.
- Coordinating daily maintenance activities, allocating work and prioritising repairs to maximise fleet availability.
- Getting hands-on with servicing, breakdowns, fault finding and complex mechanical and hydraulic repairs.
- Supporting maintenance planning, ensuring preventative and scheduled maintenance is completed efficiently.
- Providing technical guidance to tradespeople, supporting their development and building capability within the team.
- Working closely with operations and maintenance management to minimise downtime and support underground development targets.
- Driving continuous improvement in maintenance practices, equipment reliability and workshop efficiency.
- Leading by example on safety, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with site procedures.
THE FLEET
You'll be responsible for helping keep a modern and diverse underground fleet running, including:
- Sandvik DD422i development drill rigs, including recently introduced equipment.
- CAT XE and Sandvik LH621 underground loaders.
- Volvo integrated toolcarriers.
- Jacon Maxijet shotcrete sprayers.
- Elphinstone WR820 underground agitators.
With a mix of new and established equipment, you'll have opportunities to apply your technical expertise, solve challenging problems and directly influence fleet performance
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Australian-recognised trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Fitter, Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
- Current Manual unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
- Proven experience maintaining underground heavy mobile equipment.
- Experience maintaining Sandvik underground drill rigs.
- Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Senior Fitter or in a similar team leadership position.
- Strong mechanical and hydraulic diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to coordinate maintenance priorities, support tradespeople and work effectively with mining operations.
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safe work practices and leading by example.
