About the opportunity
My client is looking for a hands-on Cyber Security Engineer to take operational ownership of its security platforms and technical controls. You'll sit in a cloud and security focused team within the wider technology group, working alongside a Security Analyst and other technology teams to review risks, identify gaps and put the right controls in place. It's an engineering role across the full lifecycle, from design and tool selection through to deployment, optimisation and remediation, using technologies including Microsoft Defender, Entra ID and Intune. The work supports an organisation whose purpose is to walk alongside people in need.
The role
- Take technical ownership of assigned security technologies, driving improvement through hardening, automation and documentation.
- Design, implement and optimise controls across endpoint, identity, cloud, network and security monitoring.
- Run vulnerability management from scanning and analysis through to prioritisation and remediation.
- Investigate and respond to security incidents, with root cause analysis and preventative fixes.
- Deliver security projects including upgrades, migrations and hardening, and mentor colleagues across the technology group.
- Drive AI adoption.
What you'll bring
- Hands-on experience in a Cyber Security, Systems or Network Engineering role within a complex enterprise environment.
- Practical depth in the Microsoft security stack: Defender, Entra ID and Active Directory, Intune, Microsoft 365 and Azure security.
- Experience across EDR, SIEM, vulnerability management, firewalls and VPN, email and web security, and Windows Server hardening.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, with PowerShell or similar scripting to automate security and operational tasks.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, plus solid documentation and change management habits.
- Degree in IT or Cyber Security (or equivalent experience) preferred. Security+, SC-200, SC-300, AZ-500, CCNA or CISSP are highly regarded.
- A current driver's licence, relevant probity checks and proof of vaccination status where required also apply.
Culture
A collaborative technology team where you're trusted to own your platforms and work independently, share knowledge across teams, and speak up with ideas in an environment where it's safe to do so.
