This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and community-minded Midwife to join a multidisciplinary team delivering culturally safe, family-centred care to Aboriginal women and families across the Upper Hunter. The Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days recognises that pregnancy and the early years of a child’s life provide an important opportunity to support health, development, wellbeing and resilience. At Ungooroo, we want to provide families with care that is connected, respectful and responsive to their individual needs.

  • Working collaboratively with GPs, Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners and allied health professionals
  • Supporting continuity of care and appropriate referrals between services
  • Working in a trauma-informed and culturally safe manner
  • Maintaining appropriate clinical records and documentation
  • Supporting families to navigate health and community services
  • Contributing to a multidisciplinary approach that keeps the needs of the woman, baby and family at the centre.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A qualified and registered Midwife
  • Child and Family Health Certification
  • Registered with AHPRA and able to meet all relevant registration requirements
  • Experienced in, or passionate about, working with women, babies and families
  • Respectful, compassionate and non-judgemental
  • Able to build trusting relationships with Aboriginal women, children and families
  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Committed to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice
  • Able to identify when a family may require additional support and connect them with the appropriate service
  • Organised and able to work independently while contributing positively to the broader team.

Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or Aboriginal health setting will be highly regarded.
