Senior Compliance Advisor in Brisbane

An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Compliance Advisor to join a growing financial services business in Brisbane.

Operating within a highly regulated environment, the business has an established market presence, ambitious growth plans and a leadership team committed to strengthening its risk, compliance and governance capabilities.

Working closely with the Head of Risk and senior stakeholders across the organisation, this position will play an important role in ensuring the business understands, manages and responds effectively to its regulatory obligations.

The Opportunity

This is a broad, hands-on second-line compliance position, offering genuine ownership and the opportunity to influence how regulatory requirements are managed across the business.

You’ll be responsible for interpreting regulatory obligations, assessing their implications for the organisation and working with stakeholders to implement the necessary changes to policies, processes, frameworks and controls.

A particular focus will be supporting the business through evolving regulatory requirements, including the development and ongoing management of its Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) compliance obligations.

Beyond regulatory change, you’ll contribute to the ongoing effectiveness of the compliance framework through monitoring and testing, obligations management, breach assessments, regulatory reporting and the identification of control weaknesses.

Importantly, this isn’t a role focused purely on maintaining registers or coordinating compliance activities. The business is looking for someone who can independently assess regulatory requirements, provide sound advice, challenge existing practices and help drive meaningful improvements.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders across finance, operations, treasury and risk, providing practical compliance guidance and helping ensure regulatory obligations are appropriately embedded across the organisation.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced compliance professional who has developed a strong foundation in second-line risk and compliance within a regulated financial services environment.

You may currently be working as a Compliance Advisor, Compliance Specialist, Risk & Compliance Advisor or in a similar position across banking, lending, insurance, funds management or broader financial services.

You’ll bring demonstrated experience interpreting legislation and regulatory requirements, undertaking compliance monitoring and testing, assessing regulatory risks and working with stakeholders to implement changes.

Experience supporting regulatory change initiatives, developing compliance frameworks, managing obligations and providing independent compliance advice will be particularly relevant.

We’re especially interested in individuals who can work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and confidently engage with senior stakeholders.

Strong second-line compliance capability, regulatory interpretation skills and the ability to drive change will be important. AFSL knowledge would be perfect but not a pre-requisite.
