The Council

Cloncurry Shire Council is one of Queensland's most progressive and ambitious regional councils, delivering a level of infrastructure and service complexity rarely found in Councils of its size. With strong economic growth driven by mining, agriculture and transport, Council is investing heavily in critical infrastructure, asset renewal and community development initiatives. The organisation is future-focused, community-responsive and committed to continuous improvement across every aspect of service delivery.

Located in the heart of NW QLD, Cloncurry offers far more than a career opportunity. Known as the "Friendly Heart of the Great North-West", it combines a welcoming community, excellent facilities, regular air services and an enviable lifestyle with all the advantages of regional living.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive leadership position is responsible for the strategic and operational management of a large and diverse directorate of approximately 44 employees. You will lead the delivery of essential infrastructure and environmental services while driving organisational performance, compliance, risk management and workforce capability.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where your influence will be seen every day. You will support the major project delivery of Airport and WTP upgrades, through to long-term asset management, service planning and executive decision-making, you will play a central role in shaping the infrastructure that powers one of Queensland's most dynamic regional communities.

About You

You are a contemporary and collaborative infrastructure leader with a track record of delivering results in complex operational environments. With a background that includes working in local government in either Australia or NZ, you bring a strong understanding of strategic planning, asset management, organisational leadership and service delivery excellence.

Equally important will be your ability to build relationships, develop high-performing teams and provide trusted advice to executives, councillors and stakeholders. You thrive in diverse environments, balance strategic priorities with operational demands and have the leadership presence to guide change, strengthen culture and deliver meaningful outcomes.

Why this Role

Opportunities like this are rare. The breadth of responsibility, diversity of assets and scale of projects provide exposure typically only found in much larger Councils. You will have the chance to lead significant infrastructure initiatives, influence the future direction of a growing council and leave a lasting legacy on a community that values progress and innovation.

Supported by a collaborative CEO and executive team, you will join an organisation committed to best practice, workforce development and long-term asset sustainability. Combined with executive benefits, housing, relocation assistance and an exceptional regional lifestyle, this role offers the perfect balance of professional challenge and personal reward.

Applications will close at 10pm on Tuesday 27th October 2026.
