Whether you're ready to take the next step in your finance career or looking for a lifestyle change where your work genuinely matters, this could be the opportunity you've been searching for. Bulloo Shire Council is seeking a capable, hands-on finance professional to join its close-knit team in Thargomindah. This role offers the opportunity to broaden your experience, take on meaningful responsibility and contribute to an organisation that plays a vital role in supporting the local community.

You don't need extensive local government experience to succeed. What matters most is solid finance knowledge, strong attention to detail and a willingness to take ownership. For the right person, this is an opportunity to further develop your career. For an experienced finance professional, it's a chance to apply your skills in a supportive environment while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of remote Queensland.

The Role

Reporting to the Administration and Finance Manager and working alongside Council's Accountant, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of Council's finance functions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, procurement, rates and admin functions
  • Reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Supporting budgets and financial monitoring
  • Take control of asset management and reporting
  • Supporting and guiding finance team members
  • Working with managers across Council on financial matters
  • Identifying practical improvements to processes

This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll gain exposure across a broad range of finance activities while being supported by an experienced team.

About You

You may be a Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant or similar finance professional looking to take the next step. Equally, you may be an experienced finance practitioner seeking a rewarding role in a welcoming regional community. You'll ideally bring:

  • Solid practical finance or accounting experience
  • Strong reconciliation and financial administration skills
  • An understanding of budgets and financial controls
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Confidence communicating with people across an organisation
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership
  • A positive, collaborative approach and willingness to learn

Local government experience is advantageous but not essential. More important are strong finance foundations, sound judgement, leadership experience, and a genuine commitment to delivering quality outcomes. Experience with procurement, asset management, rates or working within a regulated environment will also be well regarded.

Why Bulloo?

Based in Thargomindah, you'll enjoy the unique combination of meaningful work, professional variety and a welcoming rural community where people know and support one another. Council offers:

  • Recently renovated housing at nominal subsidised rent
  • Furnished and unfurnished accommodation options
  • Relocation assistance
  • Locality allowance
  • Five weeks annual leave
  • Fortnightly RDOs
  • A friendly, community-focused workplace
  • The opportunity to make a visible impact through your work

Whether you're looking to advance your career, escape the daily commute, or embrace a regional lifestyle while continuing to do rewarding finance work, we'd love to hear from you.

Take the next step, or the next chapter, with Bulloo Shire Council.
