Canberra | NV1 Clearance Required | Contract Opportunity

Paxus is seeking an experienced Network Engineer with strong Cisco and Juniper expertise to support a secure Commonwealth Government ICT environment in Canberra.

This is a hands‑on technical role suited to someone who enjoys working directly with network infrastructure, solving complex routing and connectivity issues, and keeping critical network services running effectively.

We're looking for genuine network engineering experience, rather than a background primarily focused on network monitoring or general ICT support.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Working within a specialist technical team, you'll be responsible for configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure across Cisco and Juniper environments.

The role requires strong practical knowledge of routing, switching, IPSec and VPN technologies, together with the ability to investigate and resolve network issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco and Juniper network infrastructure.
  • Investigate and resolve routing, switching and network connectivity issues.
  • Configure, support and troubleshoot IPSec and VPN connections.
  • Undertake network configuration changes, maintenance and operational improvements.
  • Diagnose complex network faults and implement appropriate technical solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with technical teams and maintain accurate network documentation.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with both Cisco and Juniper network technologies.
  • Strong routing and switching skills, including practical configuration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Proven experience working with IPSec and VPN technologies.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, network protocols and enterprise networking.
  • Ability to independently investigate and resolve technical network issues.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • HIGHLY DESIRABLE
  • CCNA, CCNP or relevant Juniper networking certification.
  • Experience working in secure Government or enterprise network environments.

Formal certifications are advantageous but not essential. Practical engineering experience with Cisco, Juniper, routing and VPN technologies is what matters most.

  • LOCATION & CONTRACT DETAILS
  • Canberra-based candidates only.
  • Onsite role.
  • Current AGSVA NV1 security clearance essential.
  • Initial contract through June 2027, with two potential 12‑month extension options.

Paxus values diversity and welcomes applications from Indigenous Australians, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and people living with a disability.
