North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation | Mackay preferred, Brisbane considered. For an experienced commercial leader, this role offers the opportunity to combine commercial development, corporate strategy, major agreements, government engagement and executive influence in a single leadership position.
You will lead a function managing major customers, high value contract & service agreements, longer‑term commercial development, corporate strategy, government alignment, trade forecasting, pricing and market intelligence. Reporting to the General Manager Commercial & Corporate Affairs, you will work closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board on decisions that affect the organisation’s commercial position and future direction.
The portfolio includes port customers and agreements associated across the various assets, significant maritime and service arrangements, and complex commercial opportunities that may take time, persistence and careful stakeholder management to progress. You will also guide the development and implementation of corporate strategy and help translate market, policy and supply‑chain developments into practical commercial decisions.
This is an Opportunity to:
- Own significant commercial relationships, negotiations, renewals, variations and pricing decisions.
- Lead longer‑term development opportunities from initial concept and market sounding through to business case, negotiation and agreement.
- Influence organisational strategy in partnership with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board.
- Engage directly with customers, service providers, industry, supply‑chain partners and State and Federal government stakeholders.
- Lead trade forecasting, pricing analysis, commercial modelling and market intelligence.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team while building its capability and focus.
- Gain broader exposure across commercial development, strategy, government and executive decision‑making.
About You
You are likely to have developed your career in heavy industry, infrastructure or another commercially complex sector. You understand major agreements and negotiations, but your contribution extends beyond managing the contract. You can identify the wider commercial issue, build a position, engage the right stakeholders and remain focused on opportunities that may take time to mature.
You bring strong commercial and financial judgement, including experience in forecasting, pricing and commercial modelling. You are comfortable moving between detailed analysis and strategic discussion, and can communicate complex commercial, policy and market issues clearly to executives, Boards, government and external counterparties.
This role will suit someone already operating at a senior level, or an experienced commercial second‑in‑command ready to step into a broader leadership remit. You will need to be visible, adaptable and willing to engage directly rather than operate solely through process or behind the scenes. You will bring a relevant tertiary qualification and around 10 years’ experience in senior commercial, strategy or commercial development roles.
The role offers the opportunity to spend time across NQBP’s regional operations and build close working relationships with the people and stakeholders connected to these locations. Whilst there is a preference for the position to be based in Mackay, Brisbane may be considered for exceptional talent.
