OB Engineering Group is an Adelaide-based civil and structural engineering consultancy. We work across residential, commercial and industrial projects throughout metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. Our team is built around clear advice, practical solutions and reliable delivery, supported by modern digital tools and systems that take the friction out of how we work.
The work involves moving between structural design and site-based assessment: one day designing the steel frame and footings for a commercial extension, the next inspecting foundation movement on a residential job or designing a retaining wall. This variety is deliberate, allowing you to build breadth across design, forensics and construction far faster than in a single-discipline seat, and you'll see your designs move from screen to site.
Day to day you will be:
- Undertaking detailed civil and structural design for commercial and residential projects
- Conducting site inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
- Preparing calculations, reports, and drawings in line with company documentation standards
- Performing forensic structural inspections, including investigation of structural damage, cracking, movement, and construction defects
- Preparing forensic engineering reports, including cause analysis, structural adequacy assessments, and repair recommendations
- Ensuring all designs comply with Australian Standards and NCC
- Delivering assigned tasks efficiently, meeting deadlines and budget requirements
- Designing structural elements using timber, steel, and concrete
Some of our project work, including defence-adjacent and government infrastructure engagements, carries site access and security requirements that can only be met by Australian citizens, so citizenship is desirable for candidates wanting exposure to the full project mix. It is not a barrier to applying; non-citizens with full working rights are welcome and will have a strong pipeline of commercial, residential and forensic work.
We can shape the role around your level of experience. A few years in and keen to build investigation skills alongside a focus on design? We'll support that. More experienced and ready for a senior seat with a line toward leading delivery, that's open too.
What you'll need:
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Australian-accredited)
- 3+ years' post-graduate experience in civil or structural engineering
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD.PRO, Structural Toolkit, Microstran, and CORD
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards and the NCC
- Experience in forensic structural inspections and report writing is highly desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to clients
- Motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to develop professionally
- Ability to meet key performance indicators (KPIs)
Why OB:
- Real variety, design and investigation
- CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Support
- Flexible Working Arrangement
- Exposure to a wide range of projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors
- Hands-on involvement in site inspections and forensic investigations, not just office design work
