OAC Supplies is a successful, growing retail construction supplies business seeking a hands‑on, commercially minded State Manager to lead our five Victorian stores in Geelong, Pakenham, Croydon, Dandenong and Keilor.
In this newly created role, you will work directly with the Directors, you will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day performance of the store network, combining people leadership, sales development, customer and supplier relationships and financial management.
We’re looking for someone who connects easily with people, earns trust and follows through. You will be comfortable working with customers and suppliers, supporting our staff, and understanding the numbers behind a successful business.
The role
Lead, support and develop teams across all five stores, setting clear expectations and maintaining strong customer service.
Oversee daily operations and create consistent standards across the store network.
Build customer relationships, grow trade accounts and identify new sales opportunities.
Manage customer expectations around pricing, product availability, delivery and service.
Meet with suppliers, negotiate commercial terms and identify opportunities within our product range.
Review sales, product margins, pricing, operating costs and profit and loss performance.
Work with store teams to manage stock availability, stock levels and slow‑moving products.
Resolve staff, customer and supplier issues with sound judgement and clear communication.
Work closely with the Managing Director on business priorities, performance and growth.
About you
You are an approachable leader with strong sales instincts, commercial awareness and the confidence to take ownership.
You will bring:
Experience leading multiple sites, branches or a business with responsibility for people and financial results.
Excellent people skills and the ability to build lasting customer and supplier relationships.
A practical understanding of profit and loss, product profitability, pricing and inventory management.
Confidence negotiating, developing business and balancing customer needs with sustainable margins.
The ability to coach staff, address performance issues and build accountable teams.
A hands‑on approach, good organisation and reliable follow‑through.
A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly between stores.
Experience in roofing supplies, building materials, trade retail or wholesale distribution would be highly regarded. We also welcome candidates from related industries with strong leadership and commercial experience.
Location and travel
This role involves regular travel across our five Victorian stores.
Geelong is our preferred base to allow close collaboration with the Managing Director. However, we welcome suitable candidates across Melbourne and surrounding areas, with established office facilities available at both Geelong and Pakenham along with other options available.
The working base can be discussed during recruitment. Regular time in Geelong will be required, particularly during the initial handover, to develop a thorough understanding of the business, its relationships and operations.
