When you work with the RFS, you join a passionate team committed to protecting our neighbours, the wider community, and the environment from the threat of bushfires and other emergencies. With over 70,000 volunteer members and staff, we embody the spirit of mutual respect, support, friendship, and camaraderie. We are one team with many players, united by a single purpose. What you’ll be doing: Help shape the future of emergency response. Join the NSW RFS and lead the design and development of specialised fleet solutions that support frontline operations across the state. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to combine technical expertise, innovation, and leadership in a role that delivers real community impact. As Fleet Design Supervisor, you will lead a team, driving fleet design and research projects, and ensure vehicles meet Australian Design Rules and industry standards. You'll tackle complex engineering challenges, champion continuous improvement, and deliver practical solutions that enhance operational capability and safety. We're looking for a confident leader who thrives on innovation, values collaboration, and can work autonomously in a dynamic environment. A passion for community service and an appreciation of volunteer-based organisations are essential.

Our Ideal Candidate: NSW RFS is seeking an experienced and innovative engineering professional with strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and an appreciation for volunteer-based community service organisations. The ideal candidate will bring advanced knowledge of engineering, technical management, research, and problem-solving, with demonstrated experience delivering complex research and development projects. You will be comfortable working in challenging environments, applying sound judgement to develop practical and effective solutions. You will have a strong foundation in engineering design principles, including the ability to interpret and apply technical drawings, models, specifications, industry standards, and Australian Design Rules to support safe, compliant, and operationally effective fleet solutions. You will have experience leading and supporting a small team to deliver design-related projects and achieve high-quality outcomes, while fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. The role requires a high degree of autonomy, with responsibility for making informed decisions within established policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and delegated authorities, while recognising when matters require escalation or specialist advice. A strong commitment to workplace health and safety is essential. The successful candidate will actively comply with the Work Health and Safety Act and associated legislation, ensuring safety considerations are embedded in all aspects of their work.

Why work for us? Attractive leave entitlements including 4 weeks annual leave per year, plus more. Free access to our Member Assistance Program (MAP) for all RFS members, and their immediate family. Salary packaging options available. One ‘Agreed Absence’ leave day per calendar month. Ongoing learning and professional development programs (RFS is a Registered Training Organisation giving you access to various internal courses). Partnership with Fitness Passport for eligible RFS staff and their families to access more than 845 gyms and pools!

Other Benefits: Limited free onsite car parking available. Located within the Marsden Park Industrial area, this 12 month old modern facility is close to factory outlets, Costco, Ikea, and a choice of cafes and restaurants.
