NSW Land Registry Services – Sydney CBD NSW

NSW LRS has played a foundational role in the lives of people across New South Wales for over 160 years — quietly ensuring the security, integrity and accessibility of land and property ownership.

From the first handwritten titles to today’s digital platforms, our evolution has always been guided by one purpose: to create confidence beyond boundaries.

In recent years, we’ve modernised systems, expanded our digital services and strengthened how we serve our customers and partners.

Our new brand reflects this evolution.

It’s a symbol of where we’ve come from and where we’re heading.

At the heart of it all is our promise: Powering land certainty for NSW — so people, businesses and communities can move forward with confidence.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal team on a 13-month fixed-term contract.

This role works closely with the Associate Managing Counsel, with a high degree of autonomy.

You work independently, cultivate relationships with colleagues from other teams within NSW LRS with a demonstrated readiness to assist them with their projects where possible.

You will also show an appreciation of the particular objectives and constraints of other business units and in interactions with them seek to listen and understand.

Autonomously providing efficient and reliable legal advice and support to all teams and departments within NSW LRS including on the improvement of internal processes and minimisation of risk.

Effectively managing relationships with stakeholders and the Office of the Registrar General.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Admission as a Solicitor, with preferably 3+ years post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Knowledge of property law, including familiarity with the Real Property Act 1900, Conveyancing Act 1919, Lodgment Rules, and Registrar General's Guidelines.

Commercial law experience will also be highly regarded.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A customer-focused approach, demonstrating professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to develop trusted partnerships and deliver high service standards.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, desirable but not essential.
  • Why Join Us

At NSW LRS we’re fostering a welcoming, connected, and fair workplace, where you can be yourself and thrive:

  • Our differences are our strength
  • You belong at NSW LRS
  • Gender equity and equality
  • Family comes first at LRS
  • Women in Leadership program

NSW LRS is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and accessible workplace.

We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
