About the organisation

The Infrastructure and Asset Management (IAM) Division within the Ministry of Health along with Health Infrastructure, delivers sustainable and innovative infrastructure to meet the healthcare needs of NSW communities now and into the future. Through this partnership, IAM provides system leadership across the strategic planning, policy, and asset management leadership for NSW Health infrastructure, while Health Infrastructure is the delivery agency for capital projects and programs. Together, we collaborate with Local Health Districts and Specialty Health Networks, other government agencies and industry partners to drive transformation of public health facilities and precincts across metropolitan and regional and rural NSW. This collaborative approach supports system-wide planning, policy and asset management leadership, while delivering major capital projects and programs that create long-term social and economic value for NSW communities.

About the role

The Director, Office of the Deputy Secretary & Chief Executive, is a trusted advisor to the Deputy Secretary, Infrastructure and Asset Management Division / Chief Executive, Health Infrastructure (a dual executive role held by a single individual), and plays a central role in driving strategic priorities and ensuring the smooth operation of the executive office. In this position, you provide high-level advice on policy, Cabinet and Parliamentary matters, media & communications, strategic planning, projects and organisational matters across both the Ministry of Health and Health Infrastructure to support effective decision-making, including oversight of key areas such as Internal Audit and Aboriginal Outcomes. The role oversees the preparation of briefings, correspondence, government submissions and presentations, and manages special projects that advance organisational and system-wide outcomes. This includes leading responses to Cabinet and Parliamentary processes and managing highly sensitive and time-critical matters. You coordinate priorities and the flow of information across the executive portfolio so the Deputy Secretary & Chief Executive remains focused on key strategic issues. Strong relationships with senior executives, Ministerial offices, Local Health Districts and other government agencies are essential to maintain coordinated and timely communication. You also lead a high-performing team that delivers executive and administrative support, fostering a collaborative and proactive working environment. In doing so, you set clear direction, build capability and ensure the office operates with a high level of responsiveness, professionalism and discretion.

About you

You are an experienced senior leader with a strong track record in large and complex government environments. Your communication skills are exceptional, and you bring sound judgement, strong problem-solving capability, decision making and leadership skills, and the confidence to navigate sensitive, high-pressure issues. You understand how government works and can influence diverse stakeholders to shape outcomes, with exposure to the infrastructure sector considered an advantage but not essential. You build strong, productive relationships and work collaboratively across organisational and sector boundaries. You are skilled at analysing complex problems, planning for changing priorities and delivering practical, well-considered solutions. As a people leader, you develop and motivate others while modelling integrity, professionalism and the public sector values.

Selection Criteria

  • Extensive management experience and a record of achievement in a large and complex government environment, including exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated capability for problem solving, sound judgement and assertiveness.
  • Proven skills in developing and managing relationships and partnerships across a multifaceted group of stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the workings of government, and the infrastructure sector (if relevant).
  • Strong ability to influence internal and external stakeholders to shape the outcomes and drive organisational success.

What we can offer you

  • Work that matters – you'll be across the issues that are shaping infrastructure policy and system priorities across NSW Health.
  • A collaborative and values driven environment that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, capability development and culturally informed decision making.
