Join a growing Australian business and play a key role in our finance team.

Nqpetro is an established, family-run Australian business specialising in fuel storage, handling and dispensing solutions across a range of industries.

Since 2004, we've built our reputation on reliable service, technical expertise and strong customer relationships.

We're looking for an experienced Finance Officer to join our Cairns team, working closely with our Finance Manager to keep our financial records accurate, support reporting and ensure our month-end processes run smoothly.

This is a hands‐on role suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, investigating discrepancies and keeping things organised.

You'll have exposure to a broad range of finance activities, with the opportunity to contribute to better processes and support the wider business.

  • What you'll be doing
  • Completing balance sheet, bank, credit card and other account reconciliations.
  • Investigating discrepancies and following up outstanding items.
  • Preparing journals, accruals and prepayments for review.
  • Maintaining fixed asset, lease and other financial schedules.
  • Assisting with month‐end and year‐end reporting and financial analysis.
  • Preparing and maintaining project reporting and work‐in‐progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Supporting management reporting and financial reporting packs.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits, including preparing supporting documentation.
  • Providing accounts payable and accounts receivable support as required.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls.

What we're looking for

You'll be someone who takes ownership of your work, has a strong eye for detail and can manage competing priorities without losing sight of the details.

Ideally, you'll bring

  • At least 3 years' experience in a Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant or similar role.
  • A strong understanding of account reconciliations, month‐end processes and financial controls.
  • Experience preparing reconciliation workpapers and supporting audit requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting or equivalent qualification, or be currently studying towards one.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A practical, common-sense approach to problem‐solving.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues across the business.

Experience with project accounting, WIP reporting or operational finance is an advantage, as is experience working in a commercial or multi-entity business.

Why join Nqpetro?

  • Established Australian business: Join a family‐run company that has been operating since 2004.
  • Variety in your role: Work across reconciliations, reporting, project finance and month‐end activities.
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager: Play an important part in the day‐to‐day running of the finance function.
  • Make a difference: Contribute ideas and help improve the way we do things.
  • A supportive team: Be part of a business where people work together to get the job done.
