Our clients include State governments, local councils, company boards, financiers, developers, builders, governments, PPP Sponsors and tertiary education providers.
The opportunity
We are seeking expressions of interest from established infrastructure professionals who have built their careers delivering major civil construction projects and subsequently developed significant commercial, contractual and advisory expertise. This is a senior, client-facing appointment combining hands‑on commercial advice, leadership of complex engagements and responsibility for developing new business.
The successful candidate will bring a contractor’s practical understanding of how projects are planned, priced, negotiated and delivered, together with the independence and judgement to advise government agencies, infrastructure owners and private-sector clients. You will work closely with North’s estimating, planning, risk and technical specialists across the project lifecycle.
About the role
You will:
- Lead commercial and contract management advisory engagements across major infrastructure projects and programs, providing independent advice to senior client executives and project leadership teams
- Advise on procurement and contracting strategies, delivery models, commercial frameworks, risk allocation and contract negotiations
- Provide strategic advice on claims, variations, extensions of time, contractual disputes and complex commercial matters, supporting the resolution of issues and protection of client interests
- Apply practical construction delivery experience to assess project methodologies, constructability, programme assumptions, cost estimates, commercial risks and delivery strategies
- Lead independent commercial reviews, tender evaluations, contract assurance activities and assessments of contractor submissions throughout procurement and delivery
- Establish and maintain senior relationships with government agencies, infrastructure owners, contractors and private sector clients
- Identify and originate new business opportunities, lead the development of proposals and convert client relationships into new advisory engagements
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to multidisciplinary project teams, strengthening North's commercial advisory capability and supporting the development of our people.
About you
You will bring:
- A background in civil engineering, with extensive experience delivering major infrastructure projects before progressing into senior commercial and contractual leadership roles
- Significant experience in senior project delivery, construction management or commercial leadership positions, preferably with Tier 1 contractors on complex civil infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial and contract management, procurement, risk allocation, contract negotiations, claims and dispute resolution
- Strong technical understanding of construction methodologies, project estimating, programme development, constructability and the commercial drivers of major infrastructure delivery
- Experience providing independent commercial advice to government agencies, infrastructure owners or major private sector clients
- Established relationships across the government and private infrastructure sectors, supported by a demonstrated track record of developing client opportunities and securing new engagements
- The credibility, commercial judgement and leadership capability to engage confidently with senior executives, project directors and delivery partners on complex commercial matters
Experience across transport, rail, energy or water infrastructure; collaborative and traditional delivery models; and Queensland infrastructure markets will be highly regarded. Chartered status or RPEQ registration is desirable.
