Next Level Consulting is currently seeking an experienced Assembly Personnel to join a well‑established engineering and manufacturing operation in Bathurst. The business is part of a global organisation specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of railway infrastructure. The Bathurst facility produces complex, heavy‑duty steel components used across railway, metro and light rail networks, with a strong focus on quality, precision and safety.

This is an excellent opportunity for a trade‑qualified Boilermaker who enjoys hands‑on fabrication work, working with heavy steel and being part of a specialised manufacturing environment.

About the Role

Working as part of an experienced workshop team, you will be involved in the fabrication and assembly of large and complex steel components used in railway infrastructure. Your duties will include:

  • Assembling railway components and sub‑assemblies according to drawings and production instructions.
  • Using hand tools and power tools to fit, tighten, modify and assemble components.
  • Measuring components using tape measures, rulers and other measuring equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting basic engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications.
  • Handling and positioning large/heavy steel and rail components, potentially using cranes or other lifting equipment where trained.
  • Performing grinding, drilling and other basic fabrication‑type activities where required.
  • Fitting fasteners, bolts, plates, brackets and other components to railway assemblies.
  • Checking completed work for accuracy, quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Assisting tradespeople such as boilermakers, welders and machinists with production and assembly activities.

About You

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • Experience in a heavy engineering environment.
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings.
  • Experience working with structural or heavy steel.
  • Good measuring, fitting and fabrication skills.
  • A strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong safety mindset and reliable work ethic.

The Background We're Looking For

Experience in heavy engineering, mining equipment, structural steel, rail, transport equipment, industrial fabrication or similar environments would be highly regarded. You don't necessarily need previous rail experience. What's important is that you have the fabrication fundamentals, can work accurately from drawings and are comfortable working on large‑scale, heavy steel assemblies.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to move into a specialised manufacturing environment where you will work on products that form part of major railway infrastructure projects. You will be joining an established team, working in a professional workshop environment with the opportunity to develop your skills in a specialised area of heavy engineering and rail manufacturing.
