NEPEAN Longwall is a leading provider of longwall mining equipment and services to Australia’s underground coal industry. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and reliable GearboxFitter with Cylinder Rebuild experience to join our team based in Paget, Mackay QLD.
This is a local, workshop-based role offering a 4-day compressed working week, providing genuine work–life balance while working on specialised underground mining equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair and overhaul gearboxes and associated components
- Disassemble, rebuild and test gearbox assemblies
- Install and commission gearbox systems, ensuring correct connections and functionality
- Read and interpret manufacturing drawings and parts manuals
- Carry out preventative maintenance, routine checks, cleaning and lubrication
- Use measuring tools such as micrometres and verniers to complete accurate fitting work
- Complete basic machining and manufacture of small components where required
- Maintain a safe, organised and clean workshop in line with WHS, quality and environmental standards
- Assist with fault finding, identifying maintenance needs and supporting continuous improvement opportunities
- Support apprentices by demonstrating correct work procedures and safe work practices
About You
- Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter and Turner, or similar
- Experience working with gearboxes, heavy industrial equipment, mobile plant or mining equipment
- Ability to drawings and parts manuals
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with a commitment to producing quality work
- Safety-focused, reliable and able to work effectively in a workshop team environment
- Basic computer skills and a willingness to follow internal systems, processes and procedures
- Forklift or overhead crane experience would be advantageous
