Neighbourhood Medical is a private-billing, GP-owned general practice in Toowong, specialising in women's and children's health. We have recently moved to a beautiful purpose-built clinic and doubled in size. We're known for our "slow medicine" philosophy: unhurried, relationship-based care that puts patients first.
We're looking for an experienced medical receptionist who is ready to lead. You'll set the tone for every patient's experience of our practice and support a team that's already strong and cohesive.
The role
- Lead our reception and admin team day to day, ensuring the front desk runs smoothly, patients feel genuinely cared for, and our doctors are well supported.
- Be part of the practice's leadership team, working closely with practice management, the Practice Principals and our Nurse Team Leader.
- Manage the reception roster, including leave requests and short-notice cover, to keep the practice well staffed while managing staffing costs.
- Supervise and support the reception team, including taking part in performance management and encouraging adherence to HR policies.
- Oversee front-desk operations, including appointments, patient flow, billing and Medicare claiming.
- Manage day-to-day banking, Medicare enquiries, debt collection and billing corrections.
- Support the team with patient interactions, such as managing wait times, explaining billing, and receiving and documenting feedback.
- Support practice management with reception recruitment and developing training plans for new receptionists.
- Attend weekly leadership meetings and help run reception team meetings.
- Nurture our practice culture by listening to staff feedback and raising emerging HR issues early.
- Identify improvements to reception workflows and systems.
- Work on the front desk alongside your team.
About you
- At least 3 years' medical reception experience, including GP practice experience (essential).
- Experience leading or supervising a reception or admin team, or a clear readiness to step into leadership, along with a willingness to build your skills in HR and rostering.
- Best Practice experience is highly regarded.
- Confidence with Medicare and private billing.
- A calm, organised approach and the ability to manage competing demands.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and genuine warmth with patients.
- Alignment with our values: excellent communication, healthy boundaries, a slow medicine approach, self-care for staff, and efficient, reliable and responsive systems.
A beautiful, purpose-built clinic in a convenient inner-Brisbane location with a supportive, values-driven team that models the self-care it promotes. A practice that values unhurried, high-quality care over volume. A handover period to help you settle confidently into the role.
