An established and growing Sydney mechanical contractor is looking to appoint an experienced HVAC Project Manager to take ownership of commercial mechanical projects across Sydney.

This is a hands-on Project Manager position suited to someone who has come through the mechanical/HVAC contracting environment and is comfortable taking genuine responsibility for projects from initial handover through construction, commissioning and final completion.

The business delivers mechanical projects generally ranging from $500k to $5m and offers the opportunity to work closely with the Directors and construction team in a fast-moving environment without the layers of a large corporate contractor.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take end-to-end responsibility for the successful delivery and commercial performance of your projects.

  • Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Managing mechanical projects from estimating handover through to Practical Completion and DLP
  • Project planning, programming and overall delivery
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and project documentation
  • Design coordination and resolving constructability issues
  • Procurement of major HVAC equipment, materials and subcontractors
  • Managing Site Managers, trades and subcontractors
  • Builder, consultant and client liaison
  • Managing project budgets, forecasting and cost-to-complete
  • Progress claims, variations, EOTs and commercial administration
  • Monitoring project profitability and identifying commercial risks
  • Attending client, builder and project meetings
  • Resolving technical and operational issues throughout construction
  • Coordinating testing, commissioning and balancing
  • Managing defects, O&M documentation and final handover
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in Project Managers with a strong understanding of commercial HVAC and mechanical services.

  • Ideally, Your Technical Experience Will Include a Combination Of
  • Chilled-water systems
  • Chillers, pumps, AHUs and FCUs
  • VRV/VRF and DX systems
  • Packaged air-conditioning equipment
  • Mechanical ventilation and ductwork
  • Refrigeration pipework
  • BMS and controls
  • Mechanical electrical interfaces
  • Testing and commissioning

You don't necessarily need to be an engineer.

Candidates who have progressed from a HVAC trade, Site Manager, Supervisor or Project Engineer background into Project Management are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is more important is that you understand how mechanical projects are actually delivered on site and are comfortable getting involved when issues need to be resolved.

About You

To be successful, you will ideally have

  • Previous Project Management experience with a mechanical/HVAC contractor
  • Strong commercial HVAC knowledge
  • Experience managing projects in the $500k-$5m+ range
  • End-to-end project delivery experience
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site teams
  • Confidence dealing directly with builders, consultants and clients
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • A practical, hands-on approach to project delivery
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills

This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys working in a smaller, hands-on contracting environment where you can make decisions, solve problems and have a genuine impact on project outcomes.

All enquiries will be treated confidentially.
