Environmental Compliance Manager Sydney | Up to $170k + super Renewable Energy & Infrastructure

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to join a growing business delivering major renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Australia.

Working across projects at different stages of development and construction, you'll take ownership of environmental compliance, ensuring approval conditions are met, contractors remain accountable and potential risks are identified and addressed before they become issues.

This is a hands‑on, autonomous role suited to someone with a strong environmental consultancy background who enjoys taking initiative, solving problems and working closely with project delivery teams.

About the Role

The position has two key areas of responsibility: overseeing environmental performance across active construction sites and managing the approvals, conditions and environmental management plans required to progress upcoming projects.

You'll be expected to quickly develop a thorough understanding of project obligations, establish effective compliance processes and provide practical environmental advice to construction and project management teams.

  • Take ownership of environmental compliance across major renewable energy construction projects.
  • Interpret development consent conditions, environmental approvals and secondary consents, ensuring obligations are understood and implemented.
  • Coordinate the preparation, review and finalisation of environmental management plans and supporting approvals.
  • Monitor contractor environmental performance through site inspections, audits and compliance reporting.
  • Proactively identify environmental risks, non‑compliances and potential issues, driving appropriate corrective actions.
  • Manage environmental incidents, investigations, regulatory reporting and action close‑out.
  • Develop and maintain compliance registers, tracking systems and reporting processes.
  • Work closely with contractors, consultants, regulators and internal project teams to resolve environmental matters.
  • Support the development of consistent environmental compliance processes across a growing project portfolio.

About You

We're looking for a technically capable environmental professional who can hit the ground running, work independently and confidently manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated environmental consultancy experience supporting major construction, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian environmental planning approvals, development consent conditions and secondary consents.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing or managing environmental management plans and approval documentation.
  • Practical experience overseeing environmental compliance during construction, including contractor management, inspections and audits.
  • The ability to interpret complex environmental obligations and translate them into clear, actionable requirements.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach, with the confidence to identify issues and drive outcomes independently.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain composed and decisive when managing challenging situations.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with contractors, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience across renewable energy, battery storage, transmission or other large‑scale infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
  • What's on Offer
  • Up to $170k + super, depending on experience.
  • Work across major renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Genuine ownership of environmental compliance, with the autonomy to make decisions and drive improvements.
  • Exposure to projects at different stages, from approvals through to construction and commissioning.
  • Join a growing business with a strong pipeline of future projects.
  • Flexible working arrangements, with a preference for Sydney‑based candidates.
  • Regular site exposure, with travel generally required around three times per month.

This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys being close to project delivery, takes pride in getting the technical detail right and is confident managing environmental responsibilities from start to finish.
