The Liberal Party of Australia β Tasmanian Division is committed to building a strong, connected and engaged membership across Tasmania.
Our members are at the heart of the organisation, contributing their time, ideas and experience through local branches, community networks and events. We recognise the importance of creating a positive and rewarding membership experience, while continuing to find new ways to connect with people and grow our membership base.
We are looking for a motivated and relationship-focused Membership Development Officer to help strengthen our existing membership network and identify exciting opportunities to bring new members into the organisation.
This role
This is a people-focused role with a strong emphasis on membership engagement, recruitment and retention.
Working closely with the State Director, Electorate Chairs and Branch Presidents, you will build meaningful relationships with existing and prospective members, understand what motivates them to get involved and develop practical, creative ways to make membership more accessible, engaging and rewarding.
You will take the lead in identifying opportunities to grow the membership base, including reaching new demographics, exploring alternative membership models and developing connections with community, industry and interest groups beyond traditional branch networks.
Key responsibilities will include:
Building strong relationships with existing members, branch representatives and prospective members across Tasmania.
Developing and delivering initiatives to improve member engagement, satisfaction and retention.
Identifying opportunities to attract new members and grow the membership base, including engaging younger people, women and multicultural communities.
Exploring creative approaches to membership recruitment, including associate and affiliate memberships, workplace and industry groups, and community networks.
Supporting the establishment and development of new branches in areas of growth and opportunity.
Coordinating member events, local engagement activities and recruitment initiatives across the state.
Developing member communication and contact strategies to ensure members feel informed, welcomed and connected.
Monitoring membership trends, maintaining accurate records and reporting on recruitment, retention and engagement outcomes.
This position will involve regular travel throughout Tasmania, along with some evening and weekend work to support member activities and events.
You are a natural relationship builder who enjoys connecting with people, bringing ideas to life and finding opportunities to grow and strengthen networks.
You will have experience in membership development, community engagement, sales, fundraising or a similar relationship-based role, with a demonstrated ability to attract new people, build lasting relationships and improve retention.
You will also bring:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups.
A creative and proactive approach to identifying new membership opportunities and developing engaging initiatives.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across a statewide role.
Confidence using CRM systems, databases and membership information to inform decisions and track outcomes.
The ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a small, close-knit team.
A flexible approach and willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
Knowledge of Tasmanian politics, local communities and regional networks, along with experience in a political party or member-based organisation would be an advantage, alignment with the values of the Liberal Party is essential.
If you enjoy building relationships, developing new opportunities and bringing people together, we'd love to hear from you.
