About the Role

Are you ready to take the next step in your Speech Pathology career - where your skills genuinely change lives every day? We’re on the lookout for a dedicated Grade 4 Speech Pathologist to join our forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary team supporting adults diagnosed or suspected of having a mental illness and co-existing intellectual disability (dual disability). This is an opportunity to step into a specialised, highly rewarding role that goes far beyond traditional practice on a full-time ongoing basis (76 hours per fortnight) in the Casey Adult Mental Health Program.

This is also an exciting opportunity to facilitate research initiatives in the area of dual disability, with support/mentoring available from Discipline Senior in Mental Health and Speech Pathology’s Research and Clinical Practice Lead. Step into this pivotal role where you lead cutting-edge assessments and deliver specialised therapy that transforms speech, language, communication, and swallowing for adults with dual disabilities. Your expert interventions won’t just improve skills - they’ll unlock confidence, independence, and connection for the people you support.

And it doesn’t stop there! You’ll have the valuable opportunity to build capacity across a range of stakeholders, extending your impact well beyond direct therapy.

About Us

The senior speech pathologist position sits within the Mental Health Intellectual Disability Initiative - Adults (MHIDI-A)/Stronger together program, located in Thomas Street, Dandenong. This team provides consultation, multidisciplinary specialist assessment and treatment to people who have been diagnosed over the age of 16 years, with developmental-intellectual disability and a co-existing diagnosed mental health condition or suspected mental health condition (dual disability), many of whom will have complex presentations and challenging behaviours (0.6EFT).

In addition, 0.4 EFT of this role will also involve providing in reach speech pathology services to the Transitional Support Unit (TSU) as required, which is located in Narre Warren South. The TSU is a community residential program facility which focuses on consumers with both a Mental illness and Intellectual Disability. The program will provide recovery orientated principles and practices which will offer an opportunity for clinical and personal recovery skill development, assisting individuals for up to 12 months to improve their capacity in the areas of independent living, decision making and improved quality of life as they make their transition into independent or supported community living.

The role in total is full time, ongoing, Monday to Friday, working across multiple sites to meet program needs.
