Monaro Fuel Haulage and Emerald Carrying Company are family-owned businesses within the Haylock Family Group, providing transport services across Australia with a strong focus on bulk liquids, dangerous goods and general freight.
Based in Melbourne and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing workshop and fleet maintenance operations across the Monaro Fuel Haulage network.
The role will require regular travel to depot and workshop locations across Australia, supporting both our existing operations and new locations as the business continues to grow.
You will be responsible for ensuring maintenance operations are safe, reliable, efficient and consistently managed across the network.
The Role
You will take ownership of the day-to-day performance of our maintenance operations, working closely with operational leaders and the Fleet Manager to improve fleet reliability, minimise downtime and ensure maintenance priorities support the needs of the business.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading day-to-day maintenance and workshop operations across Monaro Fuel Haulage's depots and workshop network.
- Planning and prioritising preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise fleet availability and reliability.
- Working collaboratively with the Fleet Manager and operational leaders to identify, address and resolve fleet and equipment issues. Supporting the establishment and ongoing development of maintenance arrangements as the depot and fleet network expands.
- Ensuring consistent maintenance standards, systems and practices are applied across all locations.
- Coordinating maintenance requirements associated with new vehicles, fleet and equipment.
- Building effective working relationships with operations, drivers, suppliers and external service providers.
About You
We are looking for someone who understands heavy vehicle maintenance from the ground up and combines strong technical knowledge with practical leadership.
You will be comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and addressing issues before they become bigger problems. Just as importantly, you will be able to lead workshop teams, work constructively with operational managers and maintain high standards across multiple locations.
- Relevant Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade Qualification
- Current MC Driver Licence.
- Current Safe Load Program (SLP) and Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) accreditations.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check and Traffic History Report.
- Availability and willingness to travel regularly to Monar Fuel Haulage depots and workshop locations across Australia as operationally require.
Experience in the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Heavy vehicle workshop or maintenance management.
- Managing maintenance within transport, fuel, dangerous goods or similar operations.
- Knowledge of NHVR, Chain of Responsibility, Heavy Vehicle National Law and WHS requirements.
- Preventative maintenance planning and fleet reliability.
- Budget and cost management.
- Leading and developing tradespeople and workshop teams.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to take on a senior, hands-on maintenance leadership role within a growing, family-owned transport business.
As our operations and depot network continue to expand, you will have the opportunity to help shape how maintenance is managed across the business, including fleet reliability, workshop standards, maintenance systems and the development of our people.
For the right person, this is a role where you can take genuine ownership, implement improvements and have a direct impact on the future development of our maintenance operations.
