Senior Accountant | MKS Group | Full-Time, In-Office | $95K–$110K + Super | 9-Day Fortnight
Ready to lead, not just process?
At MKS Group, you won't be buried under six layers of management or stuck churning through files with no client contact. As our Senior Accountant, you'll work directly alongside our directors, own a portfolio of quality SME clients, and lead and develop a growing team. This is a full-time, in-office role for an experienced accountant who wants genuine influence over how work gets done, not just a bigger pile of it.
About Us
MKS Group is a growing accounting and business advisory practice trusted by a diverse range of small-to-medium business clients across Australia. We work closely with our clients, including a well-established franchise network, to deliver practical advice rather than compliance box‑ticking. As we grow, we’re looking for a Senior Accountant who can take the lead on client work, mentor our junior team members, and help shape the way our practice operates.
What We Offer
A 9-day fortnight, a genuine extra day off every second week, not just a talking point
$95K–$110K + super, negotiable based on experience and qualifications
Direct access to directors, with no bureaucracy or red tape
Leadership of your own client portfolio and a team to develop
Genuine input into practice systems, workflows, and growth strategy
A clear pathway to Manager for the right person as the practice grows
Ongoing professional development and CPD support
A close-knit team where your work, ideas, and leadership are recognised
What You'll Be Doing
Managing a portfolio of SME clients from end to end, including financial statements, tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships, BAS, and management reporting
Reviewing work prepared by junior and intermediate team members, providing clear and constructive feedback before it reaches the client
Leading, training, and mentoring junior staff, helping them build technical skills, confidence, and good work habits
Allocating and prioritising team workloads to keep lodgements and deadlines on track
Acting as a trusted adviser to clients, contributing to business advisory, tax planning, and strategy conversations
Explaining complex financial and tax matters to clients in plain, easy-to-understand terms
Working extensively within Xero and related cloud tools to deliver compliance and advisory services
Handling more complex technical matters, including Division 7A, CGT, FBT, and ATO correspondence
Contributing to the improvement of internal processes, checklists, and quality control
Ensuring compliance with relevant tax legislation and accounting standards
You’ll Thrive Here If You…
Have at least 5 years’ experience in Australian public practice working with small-to-medium business clients
Hold a CA or CPA qualification (preferred)
Have experience reviewing the work of others and supervising or training junior staff
Enjoy developing people and take pride in seeing your team grow
Have strong technical tax knowledge across individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships
Communicate with confidence and can build lasting relationships with clients who aren't accountants
Know Xero inside and out, and are comfortable across the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Are organised, deadline-driven, and able to manage competing priorities across a team
Want ownership, variety, and a real say in how the practice operates
