MMA is a mental health charity focused on translating psychedelic-assisted therapies (PAT) from the research environment into clinical practice, making them available through the medical system to all Australians who could benefit from these treatments. The reason for this focus is the worsening mental illness statistics in Australia, the individual suffering it represents, the lack of effectiveness of current treatments for many Australians, and the strength of the research supporting the safety and efficacy of these PAT treatments.

We leverage an extraordinary Advisory Panel of leading clinicians and researchers from around the world with expertise in PAT and the treatment of mental illness more broadly. Everything we advocate for and implement in the clinical area is under the guidance of world-leading clinicians and researchers.

For MMA, translating research into widespread clinical practice is about overcoming system failure and promoting system improvement. Our achievements include:

  • Regulatory Change: Successful advocacy led to the rescheduling in 2023 of the medical use of psilocybin and MDMA from prohibited substances to controlled medicines, making Australia the first country in the world to achieve this milestone.
  • Increasing Stakeholder Acceptance: Advocacy has led to wider acceptance of these treatments through presentations, media coverage, partnerships, and advocacy.
  • Training and Education: Developed and run a world-leading clinician training course (Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies), training nearly 600 clinicians to date.
  • Medicine Supply: Largest supplier of medical grade GMP psilocybin and MDMA to medical clinics in Australia.
  • Consultancy Services: Providing consultancy services to psychiatrists and clinics on managing rollout logistics and compliance.
  • Developing a Clinic as a Centre of Excellence: Running the Mind Medicine Australia Clinic as a Centre of Excellence in PAT.
  • New Payors: Supporting new payment pathways for patients to access therapies.
  • Supporting Real-World Evidence: Establishing an independent registry at the Australian National University to collate real-world evidence.

A key aspect of MMA activities is its entrepreneurial approach to social change. The clinical rollout of PAT therapies is now gathering momentum, with significant increases in Authorised Prescriber psychiatrists and patient numbers.
