MMA is a mental health charity focused on translating psychedelic-assisted therapies (PAT) from the research environment into clinical practice, so that it is available through the medical system to all Australians that could benefit from these treatments. The reason for this focus is the terrible (and worsening) mental illness statistics that we have in Australia, the massive amount of individual suffering that this represents, the lack of effectiveness of current treatments for so many Australians and the strength of the research supporting the safety and efficacy of these PAT treatments.

We leverage from an extraordinary Advisory Panel of leading clinicians and researchers from around the world with expertise in PAT and the treatment of mental illness more broadly. Everything we advocate for and implement in the clinical area is under the guidance of world-leading clinicians and researchers.

For MMA, translating research into widespread clinical practice is all about overcoming system failure and promoting system improvement. In doing this, our achievements include:

  • Regulatory Change: Our successful advocacy led to the rescheduling in 2023 of the medical use of psilocybin and MDMA from prohibited substances to controlled medicines.
  • Increasing Stakeholder Acceptance: Our advocacy has also led to wider acceptance of the validity of these treatments through widespread presentations, media coverage, individual contacts, significant partnerships and advocacy.
  • Training and Education: We have developed and run a world-leading clinician training course (our Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies course).
  • Medicine Supply: We are the largest supplier of medical grade GMP psilocybin and MDMA to medical clinics around Australia.
  • Consultancy Services: We provide consultancy services to psychiatrists to help them become Authorised Prescribers.
  • Developing a Clinic as a Centre of Excellence: We have a 50% shareholding in the Mind Medicine Australia Clinic.
  • New Payors: We are supporting the use of new payment pathways to enable patients to access these therapies.
  • Supporting the capture of Real-World Evidence: We have established an independent and ethics approved registry at the Australian National University.

A key aspect of MMA activities is its entrepreneurial approach to social change. The clinical rollout of PAT therapies is now gathering momentum. During the 6 months to 31 December 2025 the number of Authorised Prescriber psychiatrists increased by 132% with patient numbers increasing by 40%. Consistent with the clinical trial results, there have been no significant adverse events, and the outcomes have been excellent.

MMA is in a strong financial position with income streams from its various activities covering its operational costs. This means that donations can be used to fund special projects like the Patient Support Fund and the development of the MMA Clinic as a Centre of Excellence.

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and efficient operational management of MMA, ensuring the effective delivery of its strategic objectives. The role oversees organisational operations, finances, governance, people, and stakeholder engagement, while supporting the Board and Executive Director to advance the organisation’s mission of expanding safe, evidence-based psychedelic-assisted therapies in Australia.

The GM will play a critical role in representing MMA, leading and optimising the existing team, building a productive, high-performance culture and ensuring alignment across all functions. This role balances strategic leadership, operational excellence, and people management within a complex and highly regulated environment.

This new role will be responsible for:

  • The training and upskilling of our people
  • The continuing development of a strong and empowering work environment
  • Further development of effective processes and systems
  • Increasing partnerships and donations to our Patient Support Fund
  • Development of a strong Alumni Community made up of our CPAT graduates
  • Further advocacy to Government to improve access and equity issues

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Operational Leadership & Execution: Ability to translate organisational vision into clear operational plans and deliver outcomes.
  • People Management & High-Performance Culture: Proven experience managing and optimising established teams with varying degrees of experience.
  • Organisational Design, Scaling & Capability Building: Assess and evolve team structures to support growth and efficiency.
  • Healthcare / Regulatory & Governance Expertise: Ensure compliance, risk management and ethical standards are upheld across teams.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal team and external stakeholders.
  • Program Delivery & Operational Excellence: Ensure high-quality delivery of programs and services through effective team leadership.
  • I.T. Systems, Digital Transformation & Process Optimisation: Oversee and improve organisational I.T. systems to support team productivity and scalability.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • 10–15+ years’ senior leadership experience, including operational leadership roles in business/management and/or not for profits.
  • Proven experience managing and optimising established teams through a scaling phase.
  • Strong track record in organisational scaling, operational delivery and performance improvement.
  • Demonstrated financial management capability.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to lead through complexity and change.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to "give back" to the community through developing and enhancing the charitable impact of MMA, so that more people who are suffering from mental illness can access PAT therapies.

This role requires a highly collaborative, values-driven leader who is comfortable operating within an entrepreneurial and "big vision" charity in a fast-evolving, evidence-based and sometimes sensitive sector.

This role is structured as a high-impact, 3-day-a-week commitment (0.6 FTE) designed for a seasoned executive who prioritises outcome over presence.

Remuneration to be discussed with suitable candidates.
