About the Role

Reporting to Senior Leadership and working closely with Project Managers and site teams, you will provide engineering, coordination and project delivery support across MILSPEC's portfolio of transmission, distribution and electrical infrastructure projects.

Depending on your experience and capabilities, the role may also involve taking ownership of smaller projects or defined project packages from commencement through to successful completion.

Key responsibilities include

  • Providing engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle, from tender handover and planning through to construction, commissioning and close-out.
  • Reviewing project drawings, specifications, scopes of work and technical documentation.
  • Supporting the development and management of project programs, schedules, budgets and resource requirements.
  • Coordinating engineering, procurement, construction and subcontractor activities.
  • Monitoring project progress, costs, productivity and key deliverables.
  • Assisting with project forecasting, cost control, variations and commercial reporting.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, work packs, methodologies, ITPs and project records.
  • Managing RFIs, technical queries, design interfaces and engineering documentation.
  • Coordinating with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
  • Supporting procurement activities, material tracking and supplier performance.
  • Identifying technical, commercial and delivery risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, contractual requirements, legislation and MILSPEC's management systems.
  • Supporting quality assurance, testing, commissioning and project close-out activities.
  • Providing regular project updates and reporting to Project Managers and Senior Leadership.
  • Attending project sites as required to support construction activities and resolve technical or delivery issues.
  • Where suitably experienced, independently managing smaller projects or project packages to ensure successful delivery.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and the development of project delivery systems and processes across the business.

About You

You are a motivated, practical and commercially minded Project Engineer who enjoys being actively involved in project delivery, not just the technical engineering component.

You are confident coordinating multiple workstreams, solving problems and communicating effectively with clients, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and senior leadership.

To be successful, you will ideally have

  • Demonstrated Project Engineer experience within electrical, transmission, distribution, utilities, renewables or major infrastructure projects.
  • A strong understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery processes.
  • Experience coordinating engineering and construction activities in live project environments.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Sound commercial awareness, including an understanding of project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, procurement and variations.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Project Management experience will be a significant advantage.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously managed projects, smaller project packages or multidisciplinary workstreams, or who have the capability and ambition to progress into a Project Manager role.

Qualifications & Experience

The following are highly desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience within transmission, distribution, substations, HV electrical infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
