We are working with a boutique, established accounting and advisory practice in West Perth, who are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join their team. This is a senior, client-facing role suited to someone with around 5-7+ years of Australian public practice experience who enjoys a mix of review, tax planning and client work. You will look after a portfolio of business and private clients, work closely with the directors on more complex matters, and help support and develop the accountants.

About Us

The company acts for privately owned businesses, business owners, professionals, investors and family groups. Many of the clients have been with them for a long time, and they place a lot of value on those relationships and on giving practical, commercial advice. Their work covers business and individual tax compliance, tax planning and advisory, business structuring, SMSFs and corporate compliance. Much of it involves trusts and companies, Division 7A, CGT and the small business concessions, along with business acquisitions and sales from time to time. As a smaller practice, they work as one team. Senior staff work alongside the directors and have visibility across the whole practice.

The role

You will be responsible for a portfolio of established business and private clients, overseeing the delivery of work from planning through to completion. Review of financial statements and tax returns remains a core part of the role alongside tax planning and advice on structuring and other complex matters. You will be a key point of contact for your clients and will work closely with the directors. The role also involves supervising and mentoring accountants, managing workflow across your portfolio, and contributing to how the firm refines their systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of business and private clients
  • Overseeing workflow and deadlines across your portfolio
  • Reviewing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • Providing tax planning advice, including year-end planning for business owners
  • Working with the directors on structuring, restructuring and other complex tax matters
  • Preparing written tax advice
  • Reviewing work prepared by accountants and senior accountants, and giving constructive feedback
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members
  • Identifying where clients would benefit from further tax or business advice
  • Contributing to improvements in systems, processes and workflow

About You

  • Around 7-10 years of Australian public practice experience
  • CA or CPA qualified
  • Sound knowledge of Australian taxation across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • Solid experience reviewing financial statements and income tax returns
  • Experience managing a portfolio of business clients
  • Experience providing tax planning and structuring advice
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring accountants
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and confidence dealing directly with business owners
  • Well organised, with strong attention to detail
  • A practical, commercial approach to client work

You may currently be a Tax Manager, Business Services Manager or Senior Manager ready to take the next step. We are welcoming applicants from boutique, mid-tier and larger firms.

What Is On Offer

  • Close working relationships with the directors and the wider team
  • A quality portfolio of established, long-standing clients
  • Regular client contact and broad exposure across compliance, tax advisory and business advisory work
  • Involvement in more complex tax and structuring matters
  • The chance to contribute ideas on systems and processes, and see them put into practice
  • A supportive, smaller-team environment and a competitive salary package
  • Career progression as the practice develops, including the potential over time to move into a broader leadership role
