Business Development Manager - UPS Systems

Customer relations and key account role specific to static uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and DC power systems available now.

The opportunity

Metrowest Service is seeking a customer-focused professional to manage and grow relationships across our key industrial accounts. The role is specific to static uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and DC power systems used in critical industrial applications, particularly across the energy and resources sectors.

This is predominantly a customer relations and key account role, supported by practical involvement in solution development, equipment selection, scoping, estimating and quotation preparation. The successful candidate will connect customer requirements with reliable, maintainable and commercially sound power-protection solutions.

Purpose of the position

  • Manage and develop business relationships with Metrowest’s top customers, with a strong focus on industrial energy and resources operations.
  • Retain key accounts through responsive service, technical credibility, disciplined follow-up and a strong understanding of site requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for new static UPS and DC system projects, upgrades, replacements and lifecycle services.
  • Assist with preliminary system design, equipment selection, scope development, estimating and customer quotations.
  • Support sales activity and develop opportunities in new accounts and adjacent industrial markets.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Customer and key account management

  • Maintain structured account plans for our top customers, including key stakeholders, installed equipment, operational priorities, service history, risks and growth opportunities.
  • Build trusted relationships with site electrical, maintenance, reliability, engineering, procurement and project personnel.

Business development and sales support

  • Identify opportunities across brownfield upgrades, new projects, asset replacement, resilience improvement, service agreements and battery lifecycle programs.
  • Develop qualified opportunities from initial discussion through site assessment, scope definition, proposal, negotiation and delivery handover.
  • Support tenders, technical submissions, customer presentations and vendor engagement for industrial UPS and DC system opportunities.

Design, estimating and quotations

  • Assist with preliminary selection and configuration of static UPS systems, rectifiers or chargers, batteries, bypass arrangements, DC distribution and associated equipment within the role’s competence.
  • Coordinate site information, single-line diagrams, specifications, equipment data, supplier pricing, labour assumptions and internal technical review.
  • Prepare clear quotations covering scope, equipment, services, exclusions, interfaces, delivery assumptions, warranty, commissioning and customer responsibilities.

Essential experience and skills

  • Excellent key account and customer relationship management skills, with proven results retaining and growing industrial clients.
  • Demonstrated experience with static UPS, industrial batteries, battery chargers, DC systems or closely related critical-power equipment.
  • Experience reviewing and developing technical scopes, estimates, proposals or quotations for equipment and projects
  • Understanding of the operational expectations and procurement processes common to mining, minerals processing, oil and gas, utilities, generation or other heavy industrial sectors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Commercial awareness, including pricing, margin, risk, exclusions and the importance of accurate scope definition.
  • Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Australian working rights and a valid Australian driver’s licence

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Electrical trade, electrical engineering, estimating or other relevant technical qualification.
  • Experience with industrial UPS and DC brands, battery technologies and critical power applications
  • Membership of a relevant professional or industry organisation.

Metrowest is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all applications.
