The Shepparton News and McPherson Media Group mastheads are the heartbeat of local news across the Goulburn Valley and southern NSW. We are looking for an ambitious digital producer to shape how our journalism comes to life on screen. This isn't just a content-loading job; it's an opportunity for a producer who wants to move beyond routine scheduling, get embedded in a working newsroom, and turn local reporting into must-watch social content that stops the scroll.
About McPherson Media Group: McPherson Media Group (MMG) is one of regional Australia's most respected independent media companies, with a footprint of print and digital mastheads serving communities across the Goulburn Valley and beyond. As an innovative, future-focused media company, we are investing in digital-first storytelling, mobile journalism, video production, and modern distribution. We're looking for forward-thinking talent who share our drive to push regional media forward.
About the role: As Digital Producer, you will take the reins of day-to-day video and social production across the Shepparton News and MMG’s wider masthead network. Embedded directly in our Shepparton newsroom, you will work closely with the newsroom and collaborate directly with the Chief Content Officer on group-wide digital strategy, audience growth, and modern distribution.
Day to day, you'll:
- Produce high-performing reels, vertical video and non-traditional story formats.
- Lead the daily production and distribution of content across social media platforms.
- Apply hook-based storytelling techniques and retention-driven editing to maximise reach and engagement.
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with reporters, photographers and editors to help them embrace mobile video workflows and digital-first publishing habits.
- Help moderate comments and online discussions to foster an active, safe and engaged community in line with media law and editorial policy.
- Use analytics and platform insights to track performance, spot emerging trends and identify new audience growth opportunities.
About you: You are an ambitious, digital-native content creator with an instinct for what makes audiences watch, share and comment. Whether you are an early-career journalist hungry for opportunity in a supportive, agenda-setting newsroom, an agency creator looking for real storytelling impact, or a skilled producer ready for responsibility, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience producing short-form video and reels (through newsrooms, student media, internships, agencies or freelance projects).
- Proven editing skills and a sharp eye for hook-based storytelling, pacing and platform trends.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high standards of spelling and grammar.
- A solid understanding of media law, copyright and online moderation standards (training and support offered).
- Proficiency with social platforms, mobile video tools and performance analytics.
- A proactive, collaborative mindset with the resilience and enthusiasm to champion new formats inside a traditional newsroom.
A genuine step-up opportunity: take ownership of social channels across a respected regional media network and establish yourself as an editorial digital leader. Direct access to leadership: work alongside newsroom editors and collaborate directly with leaders on high-level digital strategy. Room to innovate: we are actively backing mobile journalism, video kits and digital-first formats, giving creative ideas room to fly. A portfolio-defining role: build a tangible record of audience growth, viral engagement and newsroom innovation. A collaborative newsroom team: work within a supportive, close-knit editorial environment that values fresh thinking and initiative. Purpose-driven storytelling: connect vital local news and regional community voices with the next generation of audiences.
