Manager - Strategic Transport Planning & Integration

An opportunity is available for an experienced Strategic Transport Planner to contribute to a nationally significant rail infrastructure program.

Working within a multidisciplinary major-project environment, you will support strategic transport planning and integration activities across station access, interchange planning, multimodal connectivity, network development and future transport corridors.

This role will suit an established transport planning professional who has worked on major NSW transport infrastructure projects, ideally within Transport for NSW, Sydney Metro, Sydney Trains or a major consultancy delivering directly into comparable NSW transport programs.

The Role

Working closely with senior transport planning leads, technical advisers and multidisciplinary project teams, you will:

  • Coordinate strategic transport planning and integration activities across a major rail infrastructure program.

  • Lead and coordinate planning relating to station access, interchange, multimodal connectivity, access modes, station catchments and transport network interfaces.

  • Contribute to strategic network planning, including future network development, station planning, transport corridors and corridor protection.

  • Integrate transport planning with broader land-use, precinct, infrastructure and network considerations.

  • Coordinate technical investigations and multidisciplinary inputs across transport planning, demand forecasting, operations, design, property and other specialist disciplines.

  • Manage and coordinate external transport planning advisers and consultants, including scopes, deliverables, schedules, technical reviews, actions and interfaces.

  • Review planning and design outputs and identify gaps, risks, dependencies and matters requiring further technical investigation.

  • Work across government agencies, transport operators, councils and other stakeholders to progress integrated transport outcomes.

  • Prepare clear planning recommendations, executive briefings, governance papers and other decision-ready advice.

  • Monitor planning activities, risks, issues, interfaces and dependencies to maintain alignment across the broader project.

About You

This is a specialist transport planning opportunity. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate substantial hands-on experience delivering strategic and multimodal transport planning within major infrastructure environments.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong professional experience in strategic transport planning and multimodal transport planning.

  • Demonstrated experience on major NSW transport infrastructure projects.

  • Experience within Transport for NSW, Sydney Metro, Sydney Trains, or a major transport/infrastructure consultancy delivering directly into comparable NSW programs.

  • Strong understanding of station and interchange planning, transport network integration, access planning, catchments and multimodal connectivity.

  • Experience working within complex major-project environments where scopes, interfaces, technical requirements and project milestones are clearly defined.

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical advisers, consultants and planning workstreams.

  • Ability to interpret technical transport planning information and challenge, consolidate and translate specialist advice into clear project recommendations.

  • Strong understanding of how transport planning interfaces with demand forecasting, design, operations, land use, precinct planning and project approvals.

  • Experience engaging effectively with government agencies, councils, operators, consultants and senior stakeholders.

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise briefs, reports and recommendations for senior decision-makers.

Experience in rail, metro, public transport or other major transport infrastructure programs will be highly regarded.

Traffic engineering experience may be beneficial; however, the key requirement for this opportunity is a demonstrated background in strategic and multimodal transport planning.

Candidates whose experience is primarily in project management, general infrastructure, policy, stakeholder engagement or traffic engineering will need to demonstrate substantial hands-on transport planning experience within major transport projects.

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification in one or more of the following areas is expected:

  • Transport Planning

  • Urban and Regional Planning

  • Engineering

  • Infrastructure Planning

  • Geography

  • or a related discipline

Postgraduate qualifications in transport or infrastructure planning would be advantageous.

Contract Details

  • Initial 12-month contract

  • Potential further 12-month extension

  • Full-time engagement

  • Hybrid working arrangements

  • Office locations available in Sydney, Newcastle

  • Travel between project locations may occasionally be required

  • Australian citizenship is required

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a National Police Check

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to apply your transport planning expertise to one of Australia's most significant future transport infrastructure programs.

You will work across strategic planning, station and network integration, multidisciplinary technical interfaces and government engagement, helping translate complex transport-planning inputs into practical project decisions.

If you have strong NSW major-project transport planning experience and are looking to contribute at a strategic level, we would be interested in hearing from you.
