About the Institute
The Queensland Early Years Workforce Institute has been established to strengthen the workforce supporting children and families across Queensland. Independent and working across the system, the Institute brings together workforce evidence, planning, commissioning and collaboration to support a more sustainable and capable early years workforce.
About the role
As the inaugural Director Corporate Services, you will work directly with the CEO to establish the financial, operational and governance foundations of a new organisation supporting Queensland's early years workforce. As a member of the executive team, you will lead finance, payroll, information technology, HR support and internal controls, alongside services supporting operational and communications functions. This is a hands-on establishment role, combining strategic input with practical delivery.
What you will deliver
- Corporate foundations: Establish fit-for-purpose policies, systems, compliance frameworks and organisational structures, supported by effective induction and training.
- Financial stewardship: Lead Directorate budgeting, contribute to Institute-wide budgets, and oversee reporting, forecasting and resource allocation.
- Governance and risk: Put controls and processes in place to support funding obligations and the Institute's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Commissioning and contracts: Oversee project commissioning, funding agreements, service contracts, work plans, data collection and evaluation.
- Sustainable funding and partnerships: Identify, pursue and convert funding and revenue opportunities, build strategic relationships and represent the Institute in relevant forums.
What you will bring
- Executive or senior leadership experience across corporate support functions, with strong financial management, reporting and governance capability.
- The ability to align budgets, resources and day-to-day operations with longer-term organisational priorities.
- An understanding of project commissioning in an evidence-informed or workforce development environment.
- Commercial judgement and the ability to identify and convert sustainable funding and revenue opportunities.
- A values-led, adaptable approach to leading multidisciplinary teams, influencing stakeholders and contributing to an executive team.
- An accounting background or professional accounting qualification will be highly regarded, along with the ability to explain financial information clearly and support informed decision-making across the executive team.
- Experience establishing financial and operational frameworks in a start-up, pilot or evolving organisation will also be highly regarded.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Shape the function: Establish the corporate services foundations rather than inherit a fixed operating model.
