Melbourne VIC | Full Time | Career Progression Opportunity

Ready to step up and take charge of your own sonic rig? We're looking for an experienced Sonic Driller or Trainee Sonic Driller to join our Melbourne-based geotechnical and environmental drilling team. This opportunity would ideally suit someone who has spent at least 2-3 years on the levers of a sonic drilling rig and is ready for the next step - taking greater ownership of a rig, developing their leadership skills and ultimately running their own sonic rig setup, crew and support vehicles.

We have invested in a new, full-power sonic drilling rig, and we're looking for the right person to grow with it. If you've built solid sonic drilling experience, understand how a productive drill site should run and want the opportunity to progress into managing your own setup with the backing of an experienced team, we want to hear from you.

The Role

Working across major infrastructure, geotechnical and environmental projects, you'll be involved in a wide variety of sonic drilling operations throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria. Depending on your current experience, you will either step into a drilling role or work alongside our experienced drillers while developing toward running your own rig and crew.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating sonic drilling equipment safely and efficiently
  • Daily rig, truck and equipment pre-starts
  • Mobilising and setting up drilling sites
  • Sonic drilling and sample recovery
  • Supporting environmental and geotechnical drilling programs
  • Well installation and associated field works
  • Managing drilling equipment, tooling and support vehicles
  • Working with and developing offsiders and crew members
  • Maintaining high standards of safety, presentation and productivity
  • Progressively taking responsibility for your own rig setup and crew

Who We're Looking For

This is not an entry-level drilling position. You'll already have practical experience operating sonic drilling equipment and be comfortable on the controls. Ideally, you will have:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience on the levers of a sonic drilling rig
  • A strong understanding of drilling operations, site setup and equipment
  • The confidence and ambition to progress toward running your own rig and crew
  • Good mechanical awareness and the ability to look after equipment
  • A strong work ethic and reliable attitude
  • The ability to work safely and effectively as part of a small field crew
  • Good communication skills and the ability to take responsibility on site

Non-Negotiable Requirements

You must have:

  • Experience on the levers of a sonic drilling rig
  • A truck licence - Heavy Combination (HC) preferred
  • The ability and willingness to travel and work away from home when projects require it
  • Construction Industry White Card
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol screen and police check + physical

Additional drilling qualifications and tickets will be highly regarded but are not essential e.g. First aid, CPR, Forklift, RIW. Opportunity to obtain Class I drillers license.

Melbourne Based - This Is NOT FIFO

The role is based in Melbourne, Victoria. Regional and interstate projects are an important part of what we do, so you must be prepared to travel and stay away from home when required. Some weekend work may also be necessary depending on project requirements. THIS IS NOT A FIFO POSITION.

What We Offer

For the right person, this is more than another job on a drill crew. We can offer:

  • The opportunity to work with a new, full-power sonic drilling rig
  • A genuine pathway toward running your own sonic rig, crew and support vehicles
  • Support and mentoring from highly experienced drillers
  • Exposure to major infrastructure, environmental and geotechnical projects
  • Modern, well-maintained drilling equipment
  • A company with a strong focus on safety
  • Good conditions and long-term career opportunities
  • The opportunity to take on greater responsibility as your capability develops

If you're already comfortable on the levers and are looking for a company that will give you the equipment, support and opportunity to step up into running your own sonic drilling setup, we'd like to hear from you.
