We are seeking a practical, hands‑on Production Manager to lead our glass reinforced concrete (GRC) manufacturing plant at our Smithfield head office.
The plant supplies products throughout Australia and New Zealand, supported by our national sales and distribution network.
GRC is a specialist concrete material reinforced with glass fibres, used to manufacture strong, lightweight infrastructure products.
Mascot pioneered its use for infrastructure products in Australia and has spent more than 40 years refining the material, manufacturing processes and product designs.
Prior knowledge of GRC is not required - production leadership experience, a mechanical aptitude and capability, and the ability to lead and improve a manufacturing operation are our priorities.
This pivotal role combines day‑to‑day production leadership with responsibility for equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
Working with a strong, experienced team, you will build on an established operation, improving workflows, production planning and capacity to prepare the plant for its next stage of growth.
Key responsibilities
- Safely manage daily GRC production, aligning output with sales requirements and delivery commitments.
- Lead, mentor and develop an experienced production team, building on its knowledge and strengths.
- Oversee production‑line machinery and equipment, diagnose issues and coordinate servicing, repairs and upgrades as required.
- Drive continuous improvement in production methods, workflow, productivity and quality.
- Improve production planning, scheduling and resource allocation to support increased output.
- Oversee mould maintenance and identify practical improvements to plant layout and materials handling.
- Champion workplace safety and maintain clear operating procedures and quality standards.
- Work closely with sales and distribution teams to support reliable supply and a strong customer experience.
About you
- Strong production‑line and mechanical experience, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee machinery and equipment, troubleshoot faults and coordinate maintenance, repairs and improvements.
- Experience managing daily production and leading an experienced team.
- A practical, hands‑on approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
- Strong planning, leadership and communication skills.
- The ability to earn the respect of an established team, value its knowledge and lead constructive change.
- A clear focus on safety, product quality and reliable delivery.
- Experience in precast concrete, concrete products or similar manufacturing will be beneficial, although production‑line and mechanical experience are preferred.
- Relevant mechanical, electrical, engineering or trade qualifications will be highly regarded.
