About the Role
The Perioperative Orderly Team Leader provides operational and professional leadership to the orderly team across theatres, recovery, wards and patient transport services. This hands-on leadership role combines daily workflow coordination with patient transport responsibilities, ensuring efficient theatre operations, safe patient movement and high standards of theatre readiness. Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and support services, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and person-centred care.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate daily orderly staffing and patient transport activities.

Support efficient theatre flow and surgical list progression.

Lead, mentor and support the orderly team.

Oversee theatre turnaround, cleaning and equipment readiness.

Ensure safe patient handling, transport and positioning.

Manage workflow issues, equipment concerns and operational escalations.

Support staff onboarding, training and competency development.

Promote compliance with infection control, WHS and hospital policies.

Participate in audits, incident management and quality improvement activities.

Foster a positive, collaborative and patient‑focused team culture.
What We're Looking For

Experience as a hospital or theatre orderly, patient transport officer or similar healthcare support role.

Demonstrated leadership or team coordination experience.

Knowledge of safe patient handling, infection prevention and theatre operations.

Strong communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced perioperative environment.
