Magnetic Alliance is recruiting a Field Service Technician for KW Automation, a third-generation, family-owned and operated business based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
With decades of engineering experience, KW Automation designs and manufactures specialised machinery, including post-harvest fruit handling systems and nursery automation equipment. The business has a reputation for supplying quality equipment and a strong commitment to its customers.
In this hands‑on role, you’ll help keep customers’ machinery operating reliably, build trusted relationships and identify practical ways to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
What You’ll Be Doing

Visiting customer sites to install, commission, service and repair specialised automation machinery.

Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and automation faults to keep customer operations running smoothly.

Providing honest, practical advice on equipment issues, solutions and efficiency improvements.

Measuring customer sites and existing equipment, and taking site photographs to assess how new machinery would fit within their premises.

Identifying opportunities for equipment upgrades or new machinery and referring leads to the sales team.

Undertaking regional travel, up to a maximum of 30% of the role.
Who We’re Looking For
Must Have
-
A recognised mechanical trade qualification, such as Mechanical Fitter or an equivalent trade certificate.

Strong, proven capability in hands‑on diagnostic troubleshooting, equipment servicing and repairs.

Solid working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.

Base‑level electrical fault‑finding capability and the ability to read schematics.

Practical experience working with automation systems or programmable machinery.

Willingness and flexibility to undertake regional travel, up to a maximum of 30% of the role.

A friendly, honest and customer‑focused approach, with strong communication skills and a commitment to acting in customers’ best interests.
Nice to Have
-
Previous field service experience installing, commissioning or servicing machinery at customer sites.

Experience with fruit handling, nursery automation or similar production machinery.

Experience identifying equipment upgrade opportunities and referring leads to a sales team.

Experience preparing clear, accurate service reports and maintenance records.
