Lead the Team That Keeps Our Mission Flying
Behind every MAF flight is a team of skilled engineers ensuring our aircraft are safe, serviceable, and ready to go where roads cannot. We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Operations Supervisor (MOS) to provide technical leadership, oversee aircraft maintenance activities, and lead our engineering team at MAF’s heavy maintenance base in Mareeba, Far North Queensland.
This is more than a maintenance role. It’s an opportunity to combine your aviation engineering expertise with leadership, mentoring, and Christian service, helping build a capable team while ensuring the aircraft that support MAF’s mission remain safe, serviceable, and ready to fly.
Why MAF? For more than 80 years, Mission Aviation Fellowship has used aviation to bring help, hope, and healing to some of the world’s most isolated communities. Our aircraft transport medical teams, patients, humanitarian workers, church partners, relief supplies, and development organisations to places where aviation is often not a luxury, but a lifeline.
But aircraft don’t fly themselves. Behind every safe landing on a remote airstrip is a dedicated engineering team. As a Maintenance Operations Supervisor, your leadership will help ensure that team, and the aircraft they maintain, are ready for whatever the mission requires.
NOTE:
Applicants must have or be willing to acquire the legal right to work in Australia. Acceptance of and adherence to MAF’s purpose, vision and values is an essential condition of employment. A Criminal History check will also need to be completed as part of the process.
Responsibilities – What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll work closely with the Head of Maintenance to:
- Plan, supervise, perform, and certify aircraft maintenance.
- Lead and support local engineering teams.
- Ensure maintenance is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with aviation regulations and MAF procedures.
- Coordinate people, parts, tooling, and maintenance resources.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and develop engineers, helping build strong and sustainable local teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices, efficiency, and training.
More Than Maintaining Aircraft
This role isn’t just about technical expertise. It’s about investing in people. You’ll have the opportunity to share your knowledge, mentor engineers, and help develop the next generation of aviation professionals. Your experience can create a ripple effect, strengthening teams today and helping build the engineering leaders of tomorrow.
To ensure a comprehensive handover, we are looking for the successful candidate to start April 2027.
Qualifications – What You’ll Bring
- A current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence with applicable ratings.
- At least five years’ aircraft maintenance experience.
- Experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
- Strong technical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- The ability to build positive and effective teams.
- Experience in mission aviation, cross-cultural environments, or mentoring and developing engineers would be highly valued.
Engineering With Purpose
Every aircraft you help maintain can make another mission possible. A medical evacuation. Essential supplies. Healthcare. Humanitarian support. Connection with communities that would otherwise be difficult to reach. If you’re an experienced aircraft maintenance professional with a passion for leadership, developing others, and using your skills for something bigger, we’d love to hear from you.
