Mader Group is a leading global provider of specialist technical services across the mining, energy and industrial sectors. With operations across Australia, the USA and Canada, we are looking for an experienced HSE Manager to lead our global health, safety and injury management function. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage safety from behind a desk. We're looking for an operational HSE leader who can set the strategy, lead a capable team and strengthen our systems, while staying connected to our people and operations.
The role is based at Mader Group's Applecross headquarters, where you will lead HSE across our operations in Australia, the USA and Canada, with Australia being the primary focus. Leading a small and highly capable team, you will:
- Lead Mader’s HSE strategy, systems and safety culture across the business.
- Coach and develop the HSE team while partnering with operational leaders to drive genuine ownership of safety.
- Maintain a strong field presence across metropolitan, regional and remote operations, including site visits and Mader Days.
- Lead serious incident investigations, critical risk reviews and corrective actions, ensuring learnings translate into practical improvements.
- Oversee workers compensation, injury management and return-to-work outcomes.
- Identify emerging risks and trends and drive proactive safety initiatives and forward planning.
- Ensure HSE policies, systems, reporting and governance remain practical, contemporary and fit for our operations.
- Provide HSE expertise and documentation for tenders, client submissions and new business opportunities.
- Support our growing operations in the USA and Canada.
About you: You’re an experienced HSE leader who understands that great safety leadership is about more than policies, audits and compliance. You know how to build credibility with operational teams, influence leaders and create genuine ownership of safety. You will bring:
- Senior HSE experience within mining services, maintenance, heavy industry, engineering, contracting, mobile equipment or a similarly operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and experience working across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience leading HSE professionals and partnering with operational leaders.
- Strong capability across incident investigation, critical risk and practical operational safety.
- Experience overseeing workers compensation, injury management and return to work.
- The ability to move comfortably between strategic leadership and hands-on operational support.
- Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the confidence to influence from the workforce through to executive level.
- Experience developing practical and engaging safety initiatives, communications and training.
- Flexibility to travel regularly across metropolitan, regional and remote operations.
- Experience supporting operations in the USA, Canada or other international jurisdictions would be highly regarded; however, strong Australian operational HSE experience is priority.
Why Mader? Mader is a fast-moving, growing global business with a culture built around our people. We work hard, back our teams and recognise the people who make a difference. You'll join a business where great work is noticed and rewarded, ideas are encouraged and there are genuine opportunities to make an impact as we continue to grow across Australia and internationally. Expect a supportive and down-to-earth culture, strong reward and recognition, exciting career opportunities and plenty happening across the business. For the right HSE leader, this is an opportunity to own and shape the function, work closely with our operational and executive leaders and make a visible impact across a global business - while staying connected to the people doing the work. If you want to be part of a business with great people, big ambitions and plenty of opportunity, we'd like to hear from you.
