About the Role
Macquarie University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Gender-based Violence Caseworker to lead trauma-informed responses and case management for disclosures and formal reports of gender-based violence. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Receive, respond to, assess, and manage Disclosures and Formal Reports of Gender-based Violence from students, staff, and members of the public concerning a member of the University Community.
- Lead the delivery of trauma-informed case management, psychosocial care planning, and procedural support to ensure timely, effective, and coordinated responses.
- Conduct gender-based violence risk assessments and develop safety plans for students and staff.
- Lead preliminary investigations into formal reports, ensuring procedural fairness and confidentiality, and prepare detailed reports for decision‑makers.
- Work closely with internal teams (Student Wellbeing, HR, Student Integrity and Compliance, Campus Security, Legal) and external agencies (police, health, community services) to ensure coordinated responses.
- Maintain accurate case records, analyse trends, and prepare reports for the University Executive and external bodies.
- Identify gaps, recommend improvements, and participate in sector‑wide networks to align with emerging best practices.
About You
You’ll bring a strong ability to analyse complex issues and develop evidence-based solutions, paired with exceptional problem-solving skills. Building and maintaining effective partnerships—both within the university and with external agencies such as police, legal, health, and community services—will be central to your success. In this role, sound judgment and ethical decision-making are critical, particularly when navigating high-pressure, sensitive, or legally complex situations. Just as important are your interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to engage with empathy and sensitivity with individuals affected by trauma, while confidently influencing and advising senior stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring (Selection criteria)

- Comprehensive understanding of gender-based violence, including risk and protective factors, patterns and impacts, and the nature of coercive control.

- Ability to respond effectively to those impacted by or engaged in gender-based violence using trauma-informed, person-centred approaches.
- Deep understanding of the effects of trauma on behaviour, memory, and wellbeing.
- Competency in working with diverse cohorts, including First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Proven background in trauma-informed, gender-based violence case management.
- Conducting risk assessments and investigations (e.g., welfare, misconduct).
- Working with international students and other diverse or at-risk communities.
- Gender-based violence prevention and response frameworks, legislation, and support systems.
