Full-time, 2-year fixed-term contract at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus. Data moves constantly across Macquarie University, such as between student systems, HR and finance platforms, research repositories and clinical applications. The integrations and pipelines that carry it are what allow academics to teach, researchers to discover and clinicians to care. As our Senior Data & Integration Specialist, you will be the technical specialist behind that fabric.
Within our Data and Integration team, you will join a group accountable for the architecture, governance and operational running of the University's core integration fabric, the integrations, APIs, data warehousing (Snowflake) and analytics data pipelines that underpin critical university functions across education, research and health. Your focus will be the reliability of data flows between core systems such as AMIS, Workday, FinanceOne, Pure and TrackCare, alongside the delivery of new APIs and key project outcomes. This is a hands-on technical specialist role with genuine reach. You will guide design decisions, resolve complex data and integration problems, advise clients and IT leadership on emerging technologies, and contribute your subject matter expertise to projects that modernise how the University operates.
About the Role: Reporting to the Manager, Data & Integration, you will provide technical direction and day-to-day management of the University's databases and integration platforms, making sure changes and queries are addressed in line with the needs of internal and external customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical direction and specialist data modelling expertise across pipeline architectures, database and integration platforms, and associated tools and technologies.
- Developing and maintaining critical system integrations and APIs and delivering the integration components of IT projects.
- Advising University clients and IT leadership in your subject matter domains, including evaluating emerging technologies and trends that could create value, identify business and technology risks, and find opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Overseeing and executing the design, implementation and operation of IT services, systems and infrastructure, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, service partners and suppliers, and verifying compliance with relevant University and IT standards and processes to protect enterprise information and service reliability.
- Managing and reviewing changes to systems and configuration so that operational requirements for service delivery are met.
- Assessing and planning for availability, performance and capacity of services and resources, so that cost-justifiable business needs and service level expectations are met and future needs are anticipated.
- Progressing continuous improvement of operational processes, standards and procedures, and maintaining documentation so operational tasks are performed consistently, and the likelihood and severity of service outages is reduced.
- Building technical capability across the IT service support organisation through knowledge sharing and coaching.
- Contributing to project work as a subject matter expert, working with project managers to scope, size and complete assigned work to agreed performance targets.
About You: You are an experienced data or integration practitioner who enjoys being the person others turn to for technical answers. You bring depth in one or more data modelling, pipeline, database or integration technologies, you communicate well with technical and non-technical audiences, and you balance competing priorities across operational work and project delivery.
Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience, with ongoing professional development (relevant certifications are well regarded).
- Proven expertise in developing, implementing and managing APIs, data integrations, data warehousing (e.g. Snowflake) and analytics data pipelines to enable reliable data exchange between core business systems.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems such as AMIS, Workday, FinanceOne, Pure and TrackCare, or similar platforms.
- Demonstrated experience in a relevant technical discipline, data modelling, data pipeline technologies, database development and management, or integration development and platform management applied in a complex business and IT environment.
- Experience providing technical direction for data and/or integration solutions for complex enterprise systems within multi-stakeholder, formalised project delivery environments.
- Experience providing specialist data and/or integration services within a mature IT service delivery organisation spanning cloud and hybrid on-premises configurations.
- Higher-order problem-solving and critical thinking skills, including the ability to interpret requirements and information from numerous sources, applied to your data or integration specialisation.
- Effective time management and the ability to balance competing demands, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, both on your own and as part of a team.
We are only accepting applications from Australian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals residing in Australia who hold full working rights. Applications Close Date: 6th November at 11.59 PM AEST.
