Macquarie University is hiring for a Data Analysis Officer to join our Business Intelligence and Reporting (BIR) team, where your analysis will directly inform decisions made at the highest levels of the University. Sitting within the Vice-President, Strategy, Planning and Performance (VPSPP) portfolio, BIR enables evidence-based decision-making across the institution.
In this role, you'll work alongside the Lead Data Analyst and a skilled team of analysts, data engineers and IT specialists to deliver enterprise analytics and reporting that supports research performance, return on research investment, and rankings submissions. You'll also contribute to Digital Transformation projects that are modernising how the University uses its data.
This is a genuinely visible role for someone who enjoys the full breadth of analytics work such as improving data quality, building reporting solutions, and translating technical findings into plain-language insight for senior stakeholders.
About the Role
- Support the Lead Data Analyst in the development and delivery of enterprise analytics and reporting solutions, as part of both business-as-usual work and Digital Transformation projects.
- Review and analyse databases and systems to ensure data is accessible and can be meaningfully collated, producing accurate insights and information for clients and stakeholders.
- Assess data sources to identify gaps and verify accuracy and consistency.
- Provide advice and guidance to clients on relevant analytics platforms and technologies, including identifying and resolving issues to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and operation of analytics platforms and technologies, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, service partners and suppliers, and ensuring compliance with Macquarie University and MQ IT standards and processes.
- Monitor, analyse and report on the availability, performance and capacity of services and resources, assess new initiatives and make recommendations to improve service delivery.
- Liaise with rankings and research data providers to deliver research and rankings submissions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, standards and procedures, and maintain support documentation so tasks are performed reliably and consistently.
- Help build data analytics capability across the University and contribute to knowledge sharing.
About You
You are a capable analyst who enjoys working with data end-to-end, from questioning the source to presenting the insight. You're comfortable in a multi-stakeholder environment, you communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences, and you take pride in work that is accurate, well-documented and delivered on time.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Working knowledge of one or more of the following: Alteryx, SQL, AWS, Power BI/Tableau, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience assisting the development and delivery of data analytics solutions within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated experience performing analysis using a variety of methods across both relational and non-relational data sets to enable evidence-based decision-making.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret requirements and information drawn from numerous sources.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound organisational and time management skills, including experience working to deadlines and documenting operational support procedures.
