Macquarie University Health is launching Ward 4 East, a purpose-built Step-Down Cardiology and Day Stay Unit, and we are looking for passionate and skilled Registered Nurses to join this exciting new team on a permanent full-time basis. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the culture, workflows, and clinical standards of a newly established unit within Australia's only university-owned academic hospital.

You will deliver specialist cardiac nursing care in a state-of-the-art 8-bed monitored environment, working alongside leading cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to exceptional patient outcomes. If you thrive in a dynamic acute cardiac setting and are looking for a role where your cardiology background is truly valued, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager of Ward 4 East, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to a complex cardiac patient cohort requiring close haemodynamic and telemetry monitoring following advanced cardiac procedures and interventions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering safe, patient-centred nursing care to cardiology patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring across the step-down ward and day stay area.
  • Monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, escalating clinical deterioration appropriately.
  • Managing post-procedural care for patients recovering from electrophysiology studies, cardiac ablations, pacemaker and ICD insertions, coronary angiography, PCI, and complex interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Providing Stage 2 recovery nursing care following angiography and cardiac interventions.
  • Administering medications, including cardiac infusions, according to clinical guidelines.
  • Operating and managing bedside cardiac monitoring equipment and telemetry systems.
  • Collaborating effectively with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, allied health professionals, and nursing colleagues in multidisciplinary ward rounds and discharge planning.
  • Contributing to continuous quality improvement, clinical governance, and patient safety initiatives.

About You

You are a dedicated and clinically skilled Registered Nurse with a strong cardiology background. You bring confidence in cardiac rhythm interpretation, acute post-procedural care, and haemodynamic monitoring, and you are excited by the opportunity to help establish a new specialist unit from inception.

Selection Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated recent experience in a cardiology nursing environment, including caring for monitored cardiac patients.
  • Competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring.
  • Experience in acute care nursing and post-procedural recovery, ideally within coronary care, electrophysiology, or interventional cardiology settings.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice in cardiac nursing.
