MacKellar is seeking an experienced Long Term Maintenance Planner to join our maintenance team and play a critical role in the long-term performance and reliability of our heavy mobile equipment fleet. This is an opportunity to move beyond day-to-day scheduling and take ownership of component strategies, maintenance forecasting and long-range planning across a large open-cut mining operation. You’ll work closely with site maintenance, reliability and supply teams to ensure component replacements are planned, resourced and executed at the right time — helping minimise unplanned downtime and maximise fleet availability.
The Opportunity
In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and continuously improving long-term maintenance plans across our HME fleet. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing long-range maintenance and component replacement strategies for heavy mining equipment
- Forecasting upcoming component requirements and coordinating sourcing, procurement and availability
- Working with site-based planners to align planned component change-outs and work packages with operational requirements
- Reviewing component life and historical performance to identify opportunities for improved replacement strategies
- Maintaining accurate equipment records, component histories and long-term maintenance forecasts
- Reviewing and improving CMMS data, processes and workflows across systems such as JDE
- Driving continuous improvement across component planning, maintenance execution and fleet reliability
About You
You’ll be a strategic and commercially minded maintenance professional who understands how effective long-term planning translates into equipment availability and operational performance. To be successful, you’ll have:
- A Mechanical Trade Certificate and/or Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Demonstrated experience in a maintenance planning role within open-cut mining
- Strong understanding of HME maintenance, component change-out strategies and work management processes
- Experience using CMMS platforms such as SAP, AMT or JDE
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly for planning, reporting and analysis
- Experience with major mining equipment and OEMs including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi and/or Liebherr
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with maintenance, reliability, procurement and site teams
- A proactive approach to identifying risks, improving processes and optimising equipment performance
Experience with diagnostic and OEM systems such as CAT SIS, Cummins INSITE or Liebherr LIDOS will be highly regarded.
Why Join MacKellar?
At MacKellar, you’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how maintenance is planned and delivered across our mining operations. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where technical knowledge, forward thinking and continuous improvement are valued, with the opportunity to influence strategies that directly affect fleet reliability, maintenance costs and production performance.
