About the Organisation
Palm Lake Care operates seven luxury aged care homes across Queensland, from Bargara to Toowoomba, each pairing 24-hour nursing care with generous private rooms, meals cooked fresh on site every day and a lively calendar of entertainment.
At the heart of the culture is a simple belief: that belonging and connection matter at every stage of life. Residents’ privacy, dignity and independence come first, and people who care, take ownership and want to make a difference are valued and celebrated. The result is a warm, proud workplace with the stability of a family business behind it.
About the Role
As General Manager, you’ll be the leader of one of Palm Lake Care’s largest communities. You’ll set the tone for residents, families and staff, and make sure the home delivers on its promise of exceptional care in an exceptional setting. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll directly lead the Clinical Manager, 2IC, and Administration Officer, and through them oversee a workforce of up to 160 people across care, hospitality and support services.
This is a genuinely broad role. On any given day you might be welcoming a family considering a move, reviewing the budget, or working with your Clinical Manager on a care improvement.
- Overseeing the full operation of the home and ensuring high-quality, person-centred care, working closely with your Clinical Manager on care planning, resident assessments and infection prevention.
- Driving financial performance, including contributing to the annual budget and operational plan, managing costs wisely, staying across funding (including AN-ACC) and keeping resident accounts in order.
- Keeping the home full by guiding prospective residents and families through their decision with warmth and clear information.
- Making sure hospitality and dining are a highlight of resident life, delivered to individual needs and within budget.
- Building and developing a capable, engaged team through recruitment, coaching, rostering, training and performance conversations, with HR support behind you.
- Leading continuous improvement, audits, feedback and governance so the home stays compliant with aged care legislation and the Quality Standards.
- Championing a strong safety culture and building trusted relationships with doctors, allied health professionals and the wider community.
About You
You’re an experienced operational leader who believes aged care should be done properly. You know that a great resident experience starts with a great team. You combine commercial sense with genuine heart, and you’re as comfortable working through a budget as you are sitting down with a family to talk through their concerns.
You will likely bring:
- At least two years in a senior management role, ideally in residential aged care or a related health, care or hospitality setting.
- A healthcare, business or management qualification.
- A solid working knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards and quality assurance, with a track record of strong outcomes.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and bring together multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with everyone from residents and families to medical officers, allied health professionals and senior leaders.
- A self-starting approach, with the initiative to spot problems early and the confidence to own the solution.
- A current C class driver’s licence.
Above all, you’ll be positive, energetic and aligned with Palm Lake Care’s philosophy, and keen to lead a home that residents are proud to live in and staff are proud to work in.
This position is based in Toowoomba.
