At Life Without Barriers, we’re all about creating safe, supportive environments where children and young people can thrive. Every day, we work closely with families, carers, and communities to help shape brighter futures. From supporting children and families to empowering people with disability, mental health, or those seeking refuge — we’re here to break down barriers and build better lives.
As a youth worker within our Interim Care team, you will provide direct support and mentorship to children and young people (generally aged 9-14 years). The children and young people we care for have likely faced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and our homes are often their first experience in a residential care setting.
Your role will be to ensure a safe, homelike environment that supports children and young people to thrive, learning key life skills including independent living skills, problem solving and building appropriate and positive relationships with others.
Our interim care services operate 24/7, therefore it is essential that successful applicants are able and willing to work a roster which regularly includes afternoon, sleepover and weekend shifts.
Role requirements:
- Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma, have a disability and/or exhibit pain-based behaviours of concern (ideally within a residential care setting)
- Ability to develop positive relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
- An understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people in placement
- Willingness to assist with activities of daily living, including personal care (if required).
- A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, NSW Working with Children Check and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check.
Applications close at midnight on Wednesday 4 November. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as applications are continuously reviewed prior to the closing date; and as such the closing date is subject to change without notice.
We want to employ people who reflect the diversity of our clients to ensure we can support each client's individual needs and wants. We encourage people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and people with disability to apply.
