  • You will operate under general direction and be responsible for the reliable execution of assigned systems engineering activities across investigation, analysis, design, and change implementation within established engineering and assurance frameworks.
  • Working within secure and complex environments, you will apply sound systems engineering principles to support sustainment activities, system changes, and engineering investigations.
  • You will collaborate closely with software engineers, architects, project teams, and stakeholders to define requirements, develop engineering artefacts, manage technical risk, and progress systems through defined engineering governance and assurance gates.
  • You will work with Configuration Management and Verification & Validation (V&V) engineers to ensure system changes are appropriately controlled, verified, and documented across the system lifecycle.
  • This role is a 12-month opportunity and will provide the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant systems while supporting the continuous improvement of engineering quality, assurance, and delivery practices.

You will also:

  • Perform engineering investigations to support defect resolution, capability enhancement, and sustainment decisions.
  • Define, develop, and execute Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for systems under sustainment.
  • Undertake systems analysis, requirements management, and system design activities for minor to major system changes.
  • Progress system changes through defined engineering gates and assurance processes.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation and artefacts, including requirements, design descriptions, and impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with Configuration Management personnel to support change control, baselines, and configuration integrity.
  • Support Verification and Validation activities by contributing to requirements traceability, design justification, and technical evidence.
  • Identify, analyse, and manage technical risks, escalating complex or systemic issues in accordance with defined processes.
  • Ensure engineering activities are undertaken in accordance with applicable security, quality, and engineering governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other project members to support delivery outcomes and provide considered technical advice.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned, and engineering best practices.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and other stakeholders across all levels.
  • Operate in accordance with defined Engineering, Project Management, and ITIL-aligned service management frameworks.

What You’ll Bring to Make An Impact:

  • Demonstrated experience working as a systems engineer within complex project, sustainment, or enterprise environments.
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
  • Experience working within secure enterprise, Defence, or government environments.
  • Experience working within an Agile or hybrid delivery model.
  • Exposure to sustainment environments and engineering change management processes.
  • Familiarity with engineering governance, assurance, and configuration management practices.

  • Ability to identify and manage technical risks and support informed engineering decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear engineering documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with architects, engineers, and other project members to support delivery objectives.

Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application. We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.
