Successful applicants will join our busy mineral testing laboratory, which strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time and maintaining strong client relationships.

You will be employed on a casual basis, working up to 75 hours per fortnight.

Shift work is required for this role, including day, afternoon and occasional night shifts, with the possibility of permanent employment after a period of service.

This is not a FIFO mine site position.

The Day-to-Day

Based at the Balcatta laboratory, your typical duties will include:

  • Performing all aspects of the fire assay process, including weighing, fluxing, pouring, de-slagging, cupellation and prilling.
  • Conducting wet chemistry digestions of prills, including aqua regia and amalgam methods.
  • Performing scorification.
  • Supporting the Area Supervisor and Team Leaders with sample preparation procedures.
  • Following procedures to complete test work to a high safety standard.
  • Maintaining accurate records, including capturing and processing control samples.

The Essentials

Previous experience in a similar laboratory or mine site role will be highly regarded; however, training will be provided for successful applicants with no prior experience.

Suitable candidates must have:

  • Good communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and high motivation.
  • The ability to undertake shift work as required.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and computer skills.
  • Alignment with ALS' core values and culture.
