We are looking for someone who combines extensive practical animal-handling experience with strong retail sales capabilities and a genuine passion for helping customers become responsible pet owners.

This is not an entry-level animal care position. We want an experienced pet industry professional who can confidently care for a diverse range of animals, educate customers, facilitate responsible animal sales and recommend appropriate products to support their pets' ongoing needs.

Applicants MUST have a minimum of two years' experience in a similar role and demonstrated hands-on experience handling ALL of the animal groups listed below.

About the Role

Working across our live animal departments, you will be responsible for delivering high standards of animal welfare, daily husbandry, customer service and retail sales.

  • Performing daily animal husbandry, including feeding, cleaning, health monitoring and maintaining appropriate enclosures.

  • Safely and confidently handling a diverse range of animals, including birds, lizards, snakes, insects, rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits.

  • Monitoring animal health and behaviour, identifying potential concerns and escalating issues appropriately.

  • Maintaining clean, hygienic and well-presented animal housing and department environments.

  • Engaging with customers, understanding their needs and providing knowledgeable, accurate and responsible animal care advice.

  • Facilitating animal sales by ensuring customers understand the responsibilities, requirements and ongoing costs associated with pet ownership.

  • Actively selling and recommending appropriate products, accessories, nutrition and husbandry equipment to complement animal purchases.

  • Identifying additional sales opportunities and providing customers with complete solutions for their pets.

  • Maintaining excellent merchandising, stock presentation and department standards.

  • Following company policies, animal welfare procedures, workplace health and safety requirements and biosecurity protocols.

  • Working collaboratively across departments to support overall store operations and sales performance.

    • Rabbits

  • Practical experience performing daily animal husbandry, cleaning, feeding and routine health observations.

  • Experience selling live animals and confidently discussing their care requirements with prospective owners.

  • Strong retail sales and customer service skills, including the ability to recommend appropriate products and accessories.

  • The ability to identify customer needs and confidently convert enquiries into sales without compromising responsible animal ownership.

  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to educate customers on animal care, nutrition, housing and husbandry.

  • A reliable, proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • A strong understanding of animal welfare, safe handling practices and workplace hygiene.

  • Availability to work a permanent Sunday-to-Thursday roster.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum experience and animal-handling requirements will not be considered.

Desirable Experience

The following experience will be highly regarded:
