About Us

Captain Cook Cruises, Sydney, is part of Journey Beyond, Australia’s leading experiential tourism group. Join us and discover amazing experiences on Sydney Harbour. Our brands include Captain Cook Cruises, The Jackson and the Starship Group. Enjoy being part of the team working in a busy environment, dedicated to excellence in marine tourism.

About The Role

You’re the heartbeat of every cruise. As a Deckhand, you’ll berth the vessel, welcome guests aboard, keep watch and step up when it matters. You’re often the first and last crew member our guests meet, so your energy sets the tone for their whole day. You’ll work mainly across Captain Cook Cruises, The Jackson and Starship Group vessels on Sydney Harbour, alongside the Master and a marine crew who take pride in doing things properly. On our charter vessels, you’ll also join the Hospitality team when deck duties allow, building marine and guest-service skills at the same time.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Handling lines and rigging to berth and unberth our vessels safely
  • Welcoming guests aboard and helping them embark and disembark safely, including those who need extra assistance
  • Keeping watch as a lookout and reporting hazards early
  • Taking part in safety drills and being part of the emergency response team
  • Keeping decks, cabins and common areas spotless
  • Supporting food and beverage service on charter vessels, including responsible service of alcohol
  • Carrying out routine deck checks and reporting defects so our vessels stay in top condition
  • Working with the Master, Cruise Director and crew to keep every cruise on time

About You

You’re a Deckhand who takes pride in the work nobody notices until it goes wrong: the tidy line, the watchful eye, the gangway that’s always ready. You’re happiest on deck in any weather, and you move with purpose when the berth is tight and the timetable is ticking. You back your Master and your crew without needing to be asked, you speak up the moment something doesn’t look right, and you’re hungry to learn real seamanship from those who’ve done it for years. As the first friendly face guests meet and the last they wave goodbye to, you make every one of them feel like the day was made for them.
